Trunk Shows

Macys is hosting a Trunk Show at the end of this month for Demetrios dresses. Knot members get 15% off.

My question is, does a Trunk Show have new designs, discontinued, do you buy the dress 'as is' or do you get to order your size?

I have not started dress shopping so I am completely clueless, as to my size, etc.
And I am planning a June 2006 wedding so I need to know whether the Trunk Dresses will be ready in time.

Anyone with experiences with Trunk Shows please share. Thanks.

Sorry I don't have answers to your questions. Would you be able to tell me which Macy's is having the trunk show? TIA

Re: Trunk Shows

I bought my dress at an Alvina Valenta trunk show at the Wedding Salon of Manhasset.

At a trunk show the designer or a rep from the company comes to the store with the complete line of dresses from the season. For instance..I bought my dress in September so the dresses at the show were from the Fall 2005 line.
A trunk show is great because all the dresses from the upcoming line will be there. The problem I kept having was that I would find a style # from a desinger I liked then call the stores that carried the designer but they would not have the dress I was interested in. This happened over and over again for me and it was really frustrating.

You do not buy the dress as is. They are all samples and if you decide to buy you order the dress in whatever size you are. They will take your measurements.

Hope this helps!!!

Trunk shows are great! You asked if you buy the dress as-is or if you order your size. In most cases, you ORDER YOUR SIZE like normal. The difference is that you get to see nearly ALL of a desginer's current (new) line. You can still buy a sample if you fit the size (usually a 4-6 in street clothes or a 10 in bridal gowns) but that happens through the SALON, not the trunk show.

I assume that Demetrios dresses would be made in time (you said the show is in Nov or Dec so that means you have 5 months until your gown needs to be in for fitting, and 6 months until the wedding.) Just make sure that they don't charge you a 'rush' fee. I'd call the designer or salon themselves and ask how long this line takes to come in.

Also the tunk shows do NOT usually contain discontinued designs but call and ask beforehand just in case, if there is one you like. Very rarely, a salon will still have a sample of it and can send it for the show.

One more thing, some designers will usually CUSTOMIZE or change elements to your dress for a fee if you get it then - and you get to meet the designer in person or their rep.

Finally, some designers will throw in a 'freebie' during the trunk show in addition to the discount. In my case it was a matching embroidered purse for my Eve of Milady / Amalia Carrara but I've also heard of a free veil, wrap, or sketch. Let us know how it goes!!!

I went to Macy's in the smithhaven mall during the last trunk show. It was business as normal except I got my dress for 15% off...no bells or whistles...but I don't mind saving 200 bucks :)

I actually bought my dress at a Macy's trunk show!

At Macy's you are still trying on sample gowns but they will custom make your gown (mine is taking 6 months). You will get measured and order a brand new gown.

Also remember to bargain at Macy's. If you find a dress you like, try Burton's they usually have it cheaper but Macy's will work with you.

I ordered my dress from the Trunk Show. The designer came to NY from PR, I tried on the dress that i loved that was his and he added some to it that he thought would look nice, and I added a few little details also. He measured me so I ordered it in my size.

I did not buy my dress at a trunk show but I got the trunk show price - or should I say Bridal Reflections (Carle Place) got the trunk show price for me and saved me quite a bit of money. I ordered the dress in the size that was best for me.
