I have never been to one before. What should I expect? Are the dresses still going to be very expensive? I have a small budget and don't know if I should even bother.

there is actually one at macys in manhasset today and tomorrow.... they give you 15% off on all dresses.. their dresses are not expensive to begin with so with the discount you end up with a great price!

I went to one at Macy's Bridal Salon by Demetrios and bought my dress, veil and tiara there for 15% off During a trunk show they 'unveil' haha the newest dresses in the designer's line, and give you discounts and refreshments. Definitely worth checking out especially if you are on a tight budget
