Trust Issues?

Trust Issues?

So I'm sure most of your remember the story from over the summer with my father's cousins and aunt as it related to the shower. Brief recap, we're not close with them, and didn't expect a yes from them, and lo and behold, the aunt called and rsvped no on behalf of all 4 of them, stating that it was the 'one weekend all summer' they were going to be away. Of course. But then, a few weeks later, one of the cousins called and said that she was sorry she couldn't make it, but wanted to come by that week to give me my gift and that she would definitely be coming to the wedding. Well, that was June...she never came.

So flash forward to yesterday. I get 2 cards back in the mail, from the two sisters and their husbands...all nos. I naturally assumed then the remaining two cards, the mother and other daughter, would shortly follow with nos. But not shocked, since my father isn't close with them.

So I get home from work today, and my mom says listen to the answering machine...trust me, just do it. So I go and listen, and it's the last remaining sister...the one with the phantom shower gift. She called to say that she misplaced the invitation so couldn't send back her response in the mail, but that they're DEFINITELY coming, and can't wait to see everyone, and once again they're coming.

So I mean....I have to trust that as a yes rsvp, but I'm leery because of the precedent. I haven't received the mothers response yet, which I am now assuming will be a yes...because would be really weird for one girl to come when her mother and two sisters aren't. But I'm so scared that it was another phony phone call, and then day of no one is there.

Ugh. I really hope that that's not the case. But it's so hard to trust people with this whole process, especially when the precedent has been set!

when you give your RH the final headcount, just keep a few people out but have placecards for them...don't give the placecards to the RH but to your mom to stick in her purse....if by any chance those people show up your mom can just slip the cards onto the placecard table and have the RH add a few spots at their intended table....

I would be a little iffy about them as well.

I would be iffy too...but if they RSVP'd, I feel you should just have faith they are going to show. I wouldn't want to mess with my head count... it would be just more of a hassle to have to deal with day of and would just rather throw caution to the wind and hope they show. My RH hall also has an extra charge too for anyone added AFTER the final count is given, so I wouldnt want to mess w/ that.

JMO though ...Good luck!!!

i agree with maggie... sounds like a long shot that she'll really come. so sorry you have to deal with this!!

If I were you, I would either call them (or have your parents call) a few days before the wedding and just play it off like 'I know you said you misplaced the invite so I just wanted to make sure you had all the info for the wedding'... Hopefully if they decide not to show up they would at least give you an indication of it then! Who knows about people anymore! My own Godfather was a no-show at the last minute so nothing surprises me anymore!

Don't count it. If you have to pay cash to add her because she showed up and no one was a no show then do so :)

I think you have to trust it, you can't not have a seat for her if you RSVPd yes. Sadly no shows is a way of life and you may be surprised by who it is that no shows.

Re: Trust Issues?

I had a similar situation...well kinda. My FMIL's cousin responded 'Yes' on the rsvp, but then hand wrote in 'I hope I can make it!', ***? 'I hope I can make it', isn't an appropriate response, but my FMIL gave us GREAT advice that I'll pass along to you. When you give the final head count to your caterers give a couple less than you're actually expecting. They can always add dinner plates, but they can't take them away so I say count her as a 'No' and if she happens to actually show up then add another place setting.
