delayed since 8:45am because the plane was late... and now NY is in another groundstop so we'll get an 'update' at 10am but it looks like another 6 hour day in the airport ending in a cancellation, just like yesterday
i am seriously thinking about getting in my car and driving 17 hours to NY...

Re: trying not to cry at the airport..
Airport delays are just horrible. I'm sorry you're going through this.
It's raining right now over here in Queens.
I hope that the rain stops here soon and that you're able to get in on the next flight.

Re: trying not to cry at the airport..
I was just about to add that it's raining pretty bad in certain parts of NYC and am assuming it will head towards Queens and LI shortly. Just keep hopes up it ends soon!

Re: trying not to cry at the airport..
the storms are really bad here -- we just had hail and horrible thunder and lightening. our firm's travel department just told us that there are serious delays at all area airports.

Re: trying not to cry at the airport..
I totally think I would just get in a car ...
There are thunderstorm and hail warnings for NJ and NYC now.
If your flight is delayed again, its another 24 hours before you could probably get on another flight.
At least you'll feel like you're making progress towards getting home instead of feeling stranded and helpless.

I think the forecast has more storms in it - I would rent a car, you'll probably get here much faster.. . . If you leave now, you could probably be here by 3am or so - you won't hit traffic during the night.
ETA: or what about taking a train instead?

ugh that is sooooo frustrating.....at this point there is not much you can do unless you drive - maybe you can find a good book to buy or some magazines to read while you wait? delays s-u-c-k bigtime!!

That's seems to be all you ever hear now! There are pretty bad storms too. I was thinking a train too...I don't remember where you're coming from. You're by yourself?

Re: trying not to cry at the airport..
I'm in Bay Shore and it's not raining here -- must be isolated storms.
I would get in my car and drive. It's annoying but you might not be able to fly back until tomorrow. If you drive you'll be here by the morning.

Make sure they give you free tickets or something.

Re: trying not to cry at the airport..
I am so sorry that this is happening especially on your wedding week. I hope atleast they compensate you guys for the trouble. This is one reason why i do not fly into JFK, LGA and Newark. Last time I flew in on Thanksgiving I unfortunately was flying into JFK and the delays were awful. I now stick to MacArthur in Islip and so far the last 2 times no issues and we came in when it was raining very bad one time.
I would jump into a rental and drive to NY. I would not take anymore chances because god knows how long they will be playing this game. Keep your chin up and enjoy your day.

Re: trying not to cry at the airport.. *UPDATED*
UPDATE: I'm in NY!!!! We lucked out big time.
We got delayed some more, but then we boarded and managed to take off! then they put us in a holding pattern but that only lasted 15 minutes. We landed by 2pm and the airport was packed with people --- half of the flights had been cancelled and the rest were delayed for hours just like mine. All of the later flights from my airport were cancelled. I feel so bad for anyone who got delayed and cancelled yesterday AND again today.... that was almost me, but thankfully it wasnt.
I still got to go to my fitting (I had to wait an hour but they fit me in late) and we rescheduled our NRC appt for tomorrow night.
I also got to see our finished favor placecards (my mom glued on the placecard part) and menus (they are back from the printer) and a bunch of other stuff. I also put our table numbers in their frames, and I plan to finish my card box tonight. My mom also made me a surprise.... something I originally didnt want, but can't resist now.
All in all, I'm happy to be back and it's starting to seem real now!
