Trying to Book Hall-No tastings??????

Trying to Book Hall-No tastings??????

Ok, so I believe the Fh and I have finally decided on a place that we both agreed on and liked the price w/the offers.
So, the last thing that would make this decision final would be to try the food. I haven't been there for a wedding ever so, Im clueless! I just called to see if we could set something up for a mini taste test and I was told they dont offer them anymore. It was due to the quantity of people coming in for a free meal and never being serious about booking. So, I have to pay for that & have to wait until the day of my wedding to see if the food is good???

Is this a new thing for the catering halls? I think aside from the service, the food is VERY important! What if its not good? Ugh, so fustrating!
I am waiting for a call from the banquet manager & hoping there is an exception to make for us. What to do????

Well, we went to Expos to try the food, but we couldn't get a real tasting with full entrees until after we booked. It's weird, but I can see how they would lose a lot of money offering several full free entrees to every interested couple...We had 3 full meals at our tasting--a chicken, fish, and filet mignon.

What is the place? The ladies (and men) on this site are usually pretty good about giving honest opinions!

I was able to do a tasting at my hall, but they are under new ownership now (Villa Lombardis took over in Jan) so I don't know the new policy.

But I agree with you, the tasting was important to us.

My place allows tastings before booking.

I had the same experience when I booked mine. They said you can have dinner at our restaurant any time you want we will throw in dessert or a bottle of wine or something. Well I made sure that our contract said that if we do not like the food in the restaurant we can get our deposit back. So that is something you can do. I totally understand what they said about to many people getting free meals though.
hope this helps

My hall doesn't do tastings at all.. read reviews on here and ate lunch at the restaurant and it was good. Hopefully the food at the wedding will be just as good!!!

Really??? I booked there and they had NO problem having me, FI and my 2 parents and my sister come in for a tasting. Let me tell you... the filet mignon was AMAZING! My mom and dad talked about how it melted in your mouth all the way home. The dessert was delicious... all the appetizers were fantastic. The only thing I didnt like was the baked clams (a little fishy tasting) so I am not having them there. Honestly, I would call back and say that you know someone who booked there less than a year ago and got a tasting and its just fair to do the same for you. They had us come an hour or so before a wedding was starting and they just gave us some of their food. Good luck.

My hall didn't offer a tasting before you book. But we did get one after. I went on their reputation.

Thank you for the info. When I did mention it to the banquet manager,he did say, Call me, we'll talk. So, it wasn't an official NO.
I'll find out later this afternoon. Hoping it works out.

My hall didn't do a tasting, and I must admit it's always been a question that been on my mind. But, basically I went on its reputation.

Larkfield doesn't do a tasting until after you book. But the BM told me that if I didn't like the food he would give me our deposit back. The food was amazing.

When I was looking, we went to Terrace on the Park in Queens. When we asked about a tasting the BM looked at us like we had two heads. He said that their name speaks for itsself and that the chef would be insulted if he was asked to let people try his food. Whateva!

you can tell them that you will sign the contract, and put a clause in the contract that you want a tasting and that when you do taste the food, if you are not satisfied you should get your deposit back. we did that with our hall. they werent going to let us taste the food until 6 months before the wedding.

Swan Club give us a food tasting before we booked which was great! They do their food tasting Tuesday - Friday

I would talk to the hall again.. I know a few of the places we were thinking about doing didnt offer tastings but would have showcase nights where they would have food out for sampling and a bunch of vendors come so you can check them out at the same time... I dont think any of the places i looked at had NO way for you to sample first...

I had my wedding at WCC and they told me no tasting either.... So we didnt have one.
I had been to weddings there before though so I wasnt worried.. my prom was also there.
This hall is known for their amazing food, but if you are worried about it, ask again.
