trying to get house insurance before closing.......question....
i just tried calling allstate and they want to know how far away the closest fire hydrant is...... did you just drive by the house or is there an easier way?

I don't know about an easier way. They want to know basically if it's within 1000 feet of your house.
To be exact, it has to be 1000 ft or closer and attached to a public main and/or a fire house within 5 miles. (studying for my stupid NY Brokers License -Insurance).
I always just said 'Its less than a block away'. Right now it's right in front of our house.
I may be paranoid but I'd like to KNOW where the nearest Fire Hydrant is. Do you mind driving by?

That was a concern for me when I look at houses so I knew. But you can also call your local firedepartment and they can tell you or your inaurance company can call them.
