TTC QOTD 5/20/2003

Ok, here is our first QOTD: Have you thought about the sex of the baby you would want, not that we would not all be happy with any sex, but just thinking. And if so what is it and what names do you have in mind.

Re: TTC QOTD

Like you said Shamma, we would be happy with either, but DH really wants a daughter. His family is ALL boys and his mom, who is deceased, always wanted a grandaughter.

As far as names fo, for a girl we had decided on Emma Elizabeth FIVE years ago, but it seems to be the popular name now! It also would make her initials EEW! I would like to honor my grandparents that passed last year and use an 'I' name (they were Irene and Isidore). So I was thinking Emma Isabelle. I'm sure that will change too...lol.
As for a boy, Dh and I can't agree. We seem to lean toward 'J' names but I like biblical names like Jacob and Joshua and he doesn't. We had decided we liked Jared but then those Subway commercials came out so we nixed that idea!

Good question Shamma

Re: TTC QOTD

I have always said I wanted a little girl so that I could do her hair and dress her in the cute little things that little girls wear and turn her in to a shoe hog like myself Anyway, I will be glad if God blesses me with any children at all. Little boys are not bad, I just have never pictured myself with a little boy.

Lisa you are funny her initials would be EEW

If I had a little girl I would want to honor my grandma who passed away in Dec by giving the baby her name as a middle name, my g-ma raised me. So it would be something Afrocentric of course and the middle name Alice. For boys I have thought of names like Bradley, Anthony, Michael, Ishamel, for a boy it would be both biblical and afrocentric in nature.

Re: TTC QOTD

This is sort of related to Christine's question about choosing the gender - which I have strong opinions about - but, you can read them on that thread.

DH and I often discuss our plans and thoughts on Baby #2. Truthfully, we do not know when we will begin TTC #2, but we do know it won't be this year. We are also undecided about whether #2 will be our second and final child in our family. We need more time to decide that, I think.

Our biggest concern about a second baby really isn't the gender, but rather - will he/she be as wonderful and perfect as our darling Paul? All kidding aside, Paul has been an easy child and a JOY and I've often called him my 'storybook' child...due to his penchant for marking holidays and special events w/major milestones in his life (cutting first tooth for Thanksgiving; two front teeth on Christmas Day; taking his first steps on his 1st bday, etc. just to name a few)

As far as gender, I am not one of those people that says, 'well, I have a little boy...now I just HAVE TO HAVE a little girl.' I really feel I'd be thrilled to have another boy, if that's what God sends me.

Edited to add - if we have a girl, her name is supposed to be Isabella Rae....BUT, my cousin is due in October, and she wants to name her baby Isabella, if it's a girl so we might have to change our choice, if necessary.
We do not have any ideas for another boy's name...it was difficult enough for us to have chosen Paul's name!

Claud, a girl in my church just named her baby Isabella, very nice name.

What was the significance of naming your son Paul???

Re: TTC QOTD

Paul Robert was named for many people...Paul is a family name on both my side and Jeff's side...so we made a lot of people happy w/the choice, especially US!

Plus, I am not a fan of the very common male names or the trendy ones, or the ones that can be shortened...for example, I love the name James but not Jim, Jimmy or Jimbo. I like William, but not Bill or Billy or (worse) Willy.

It's funny, but we have actually gotten a lot of comments on Paul's name recently...how it's a very masculine sounding name (which was important to us when we chose it), and how it's not very common these days (which we LOVE!)

Re: TTC QOTD

In the past, my husband and I always say that we are going to have one child -- a girl. However, we have slowly changed that thinking because we would be happy with whatever god blesses us with. We are still sticking to the one child thing for now. We have decided that we will decide on a second child after the first.

Re: TTC QOTD

Natasha, DH and I say the same thing.
With all the trouble we're having TTC, plus the age factor, we'd be happy with one.
If we have enough time and money and the state of mind to go through all this again, maybe we'd try for a second.

I would love to have one of each, but I would be happy just being able to get preggo and have a healthy baby. Mark is afraid to have a girl (he thinks he may someday end of killing a bf.. lol) bur for a girl I love Amanda Rose and for a boy Nicholas Salvatore

Re: TTC QOTD

not TTC until next year...and of course we would want both sexes...but I have such a feeling that I am going to have boys...and they will all be like DH...(please help me if this happens )

but I did always say if we keep trying and only get boys that I would love to adopt a girl from China...I have studied in China and extensively in schools...and I love the culture and the language...It also breaks my hear thtat 95% of the children in orphanages in china are female, b/c of the desire to have a male child and the one-child policy

as for names...we discussed them...but made the mistake of telling DH's cousin...who took the feminine version of our boy name...so we made a pact not to tell anyone...

btw...before I was married...my initials were EWE

Re: TTC QOTD

Wow ... I think about this all the time. I want about 2-3 kids ... so I just hope that I have atleast one of each sex. But whatever I'm blessed with, I'll truly love. Although ... I did go to a psychic, so I'm convinced that I'm going to have two boys and then a girl!! Anyway, life would still be wonderful!

On the name category ... Rob and I love girl names and have ours pretty much picked for now (although I'm sure it will change). But our boy choices are not in agreement. And if the psychic is right, I'll have two of them!! To funny!!!

To funny Erica! Actually, I told my cousin our name for the girl and I told her she CANNOT use it! We'll see! I know how you feel though!

I would feel blessed and grateful JUST to have another child.

Re: TTC QOTD

We are in the beginning stages of TTC and have thopught about this a lot. I would love one of each, but I know I will accept whatever is meant for us.

I come from a family of 6 children, and would love to also have lots of cildren, but being I am nearing 31, the thought of having anymore than 3 seems crazy, although these days anything is possible.

For names, the girls one are plentiful in choice, but we are very undecided about boys names.

: Audrey; Isabella (Bella); Bernadette; Madison (Maddie) with the middle name Grace (after my grandma)

: Andrew; Daniel ???

Re: TTC QOTD

Claud ... Love the name Isabella Rae. So musical!

We'd of course be happy with whatever God has chosen for us, but I think I'm leaning more towards wanting a girl. My mom & MIL both want a girl too. On his side there are all boys & she'd love to have a little girl finally!

We think a good name is really important. We're not really going to go the 'we have to name it after someone in my family' route. I like my DH's name, but my brother's name is also vincent, so as a first name its out of the question. If its a boy ... we like Michael Vincent.

If its a girl we like Maria Theresa. Theresa is my Mother & Grandmother's name & this was also the name that MIL would have named DH if he'd been a girl. So we're near the family .... we're just not taking many namesakes. I don't want any hurt feelings if we don't have enough children to name them after EVERYONE!

Re: TTC QOTD

There are a few ways to 'help' along your gender choice when TTC, just an FYI.

While I would like my first child to be a girl, I have a very strong feeling it will be a boy. Scott thinks it will be a girl- but I think he is wrong.
My family has a lot more boys and everyone is hoping for a girl, which I sorta really hate because Scott said he feels like he will dissappoint people if he comes out of the elevator and says 'it's a boy'. But it is what it is and we cannot really do much about it. I will be happy with a healthy, happy, sleeps thru the night baby.

But if I do have 2 boys in a row my butt will be on a plane to China to get my little girl!

I love the fact that some of the older names(especially for girl) are coming back.

Re: TTC QOTD

To be honest I'm a little afraid of having a boy! For some reason I have this image of a girl being a very sweet baby and child and someone whom I can communicate well with as she gets older, but for a boy, I'm afraid that he will become a terror during the young childhood years and I'm also questioning how I will be able to communicate with an adolescent/teenage boy. I have no idea why I feel this way, maybe because I've seen family members whose girls all seem sweet, but whose boys are more difficult. I KNOW I'll be happy either way in the end!! I also think that in general most moms want girls and dads want boys.

We want 2-3 children, I haven't even had this one yet, and I'm already thinking of when we'll try for the 2nd. I guess ideally it would be nice if we had at least one of each sex.

Re: TTC QOTD

Niha we are so here, ---><----wait for tomorrow's QOTD we will discuss that. God does not gives us more than we can bear. I hope if I do have a boy, I will raise him in such a way that he is not overly masculine and not overly feminie, where he is not afraid to share his feelings and can communicate w/o feeling like people are going think he is a wuss.
michele31 Posted:

Re: TTC QOTD

Let me tell you Niha- my best friend has one of each. And the boy is soooo much easier than the girl. As teenagers girls get boyfriends and want million dollar cloths and talk on the phone ALL THE TIME and the costs involved are sooo much more; dance school, gymnastics, clothes, hair cuts, etc..etc..

her son plays baseball (not much $$ there) and he is so much easier when it comes to clothes. he is barely on the phone.

So girls can be hard during those years.
