Tux Store Question

Tux Store Question

For girls who went to both Men's Wearhouse and an independent shop, did you notice a difference in the quality of the vests/ties from the two places?

Long story short, FH had an absolutely miserable experience buying a suit at Men's Wearhouse. He's a tiny guy, and was rushed in to buying a suit that is not the right cut for his frame, they did a shiz-tastic job altering it, he went back saying it wasn't altered properly, and they did the 'no, no, it looks fine' routine. Unfortunately, was part of a buy one, get one deal with his father buying the other suit, so he couldn't return it without his father having to pay the difference, and is basically stuck with it. After we started getting a hard time, I decided to pull the thinly veiled threat routine and said that we're getting married in a few months and WERE considering using them, so while we're here, please show me your gold paisley vests, since after looking online I liked that one best.

Well, what they showed me certainly didn't look like online, and was really yellow, not an old gold. I wasn't happy with the other color selections given my color palate. The website showed an 'apple' that looked deep red, but didnt see if it was accurate in person, and wasn't keen on matching the girls. This, combined with the lack of service, made me and FH really want to go elsewhere.

Slight setback is that we recently found out a GM will be moving to Ohio by September, and he said that he would just send his measurements if we do not do it while he is still here, or if we use a chain he'll take care of it in Ohio. I want to be convenient for him, but I don't want to use Men's Wearhouse for solely that reason. I'm thinking of using Roger's, probably the Babylon location because more convenient for the guy's even though Smithtown is better for me.

Did you girls find that the colors were truer or better quality at the independent shops? Or all vests are somewhat cheesy looking in quality, regardless of store? Of course FH had to have the day from hell with suits, now he's even more fussy than usual with the tuxes. TIA!

Aw...too bad that happened to you guys. We went with men's wearhouse and had a GREAT experience. Everything went so well, looked great and fit perfectly the first time! But I think it depends on the store and its employees....some of those girls are just

Good luck!

Sooo... my FH and his groomsmen went to the men's warehouse in Plainview and so began what i like to call it the tux saga. Not one of their tuxes fit correctly! They did a crap altering job and one groomsmen was a very heavy set man and the tux just looked ridiculous on him. Another tux was too big, and the third was too short. They were fixing it up to the last night before the wedding. I was flipping out. And you saw at the wedding that that tuxes still did not fit right. My DH was in a wedding a couple years back, and they got their tuxes in Tuxedo Park i think. And the cut was perfect for each person from day one, they are much pricier however.

We also had a negative experience with MW.... the tux jacket they had did not fit FH right at all and looked terrible, they won't tailor and they had ONE rental shoe that was hurting FH's feet after 5 min of having them on (he has high wide feet, but still). And the girl we didn't get a good vibe from, like she didn't know what she was talking about

We went to Rico's in Center Moriches and had a GREAT experience, they only do menswear and know their stuff. I personally feel the stuff is nicer (they have a few lines you can choose from, we went with the Jim's formalwear line). And they will tailor anything they need to the day before the wedding when the guys come in to get them and try them on to make sure they fit perfect.

And the OOT was a concern for me too, bc our guys are all over from Rochester to Albany to LI. It's not an issue, they gave us cards for them to go get measured, fill out the card and they can mail it in or mail to me to get it in.

I know it doesn't sound like it makes sense that a local shop would be good for OOTers, but I'm telling you honestly that Mike at Esquire Tuxedos has been amazing as far as helping to plan for the OOT guys!

My brother and step-father are going on Thursday to pick up their tuxes. and the four OOTers (including FH) are going Friday at 2:30 to pick theirs up, so if you want me to tell you after that just how perfect everything goes (I have zero doubts in my mind, especially with the tailor there when they pick up!) I'd be happy to let you know!

I know people use giant chain stores because they think the measuring works out better, but as all these reviews show, it doesn't necessarily work that way! The best thing that happened so far in this process for me was that when FFIL was too embarrassed to get measured (don't ask ) Mike was able to figure out from his home measurements what size he should be and make sure to have a few options in those sizes available when they go for their 'final fitting' the day before the wedding.

How does it get any better than personalized service like that??

ITA. We didn't have any issues with Men's Wearhouse. I never went with a swatch but the color we chose for he GM looked the same as the color for the BMs.

We noticed that so that reassured FH to get everything black because the lighter colors looked not that great. The MW we went to was terrible the CS stunk. We made an appt and still had to wait like everyone else.

FH went to the one near the Smithhaven mall and didn't have any problems or a wait any of the times he has gone. I think it really depends on the MW you go to, there are soo many of them.
