'Two thousand eight' or 'Two thousand and eight'

'Two thousand eight' or 'Two thousand and eight'

Need help:

I know proper English is 'Two thousand eight' but I've heard on invitations it looks nicer to have 'Two thousand and eight,' since that's what most people say.

What did you all do?/are you doing? We're going to print tomorrow and I need to finalize this one thing! HELP IS APPRECIATED!

same here. I was worried that it was wrong but the invite company said to keep the 'and' in there. so i just left it in.

Yeah a wedding planner we sortof know through friends says she always puts 'and'... but I (as an English major) was always drilled to drop the 'and.' What to do!

And for the reply card, we have 'The favour of a reply is requested on or before July 22nd, 2008.'

Do I drop the 'nd' after 22?

mine does not say 'and'

I was always told that numbers shouldn't have the word 'and' in there.

I would go for 'two thousand eight.' The and is superfluous.

Our invitations say 'Two Thousand and Eight'.
Technically, the 'and' shouldn't be there, but I like the flow of it. It's really up to you bc it could be done either way!

I used Two Thousand and Seven on my invitations. I had several family friends that are math teachers tell me that there should not be 'and'

I left the 'and' out too. Not grammatically correct.

i have my masters in english and i just couldnt bring myself to use the 'and' even though it is often used.

two thousand AND eight = 2000.8

two thousand eight = 2008

I was told by some other LIW brides and my invitation company that using 'AND' is wrong so I did not use it.

I used two thousand eight and left out the and.

two thousand eight is grammatically correct...

It is acceptable to use two thousand and eight on wedding invitations, for some reason though...

I think I did, and my mother is an english professor

Yup. I was an english major, so it annoyed the crap out of me to have something gramatically incorrect, but on invitations the 'and' is ok.

Plus we were invited to 8 weddings last year, and every single invitation said 'two thousand and seven.'

Mine says 'and' and IMO you should drop the 'nd'
Ours is Oct 1 and we did not put 'st' although I always want to when I say it!

I am a math teacher..and it should be two thousand eight...the 'and' in a number always stands for a decimal..just a little FYI
