TY Ettiquette

...just wanted to know what the guidelines are for sending the TY cards. Is there a time limit as to when you should send a TY card?

Re: TY Ettiquette

It is usually about 3 months.

Start them as soon as you can and do a few everyday. It'll go fast and you'll have them done before you know it.

From 'emily Post's Wedding Etiquette: 'Thanks take many form,s but all sahre one common guideline- they should be prompt... The bottom line is thata separate ahndwritten note must be sent for each wedding present you receive... There is NO EXCUSE for not having all thnk you notes written withint 3 months of the wedding-at the most-especially now that the groom is expected to share in this task.

Whats included in a thank you note? Every thank you note, no matter how short should uclude a reference to teh present itself. You don't have have to lie about your feelings afor the gift, simply express your appreciateion for the thought and effort...

They also say notes are written by one person, so they should be signed by one person. the example the books gives is as follows.

Dear Mr and mrs McKune,
How did you ever find those perfect candlesticks? they are wonderful, and John and I want to thank you a thousand times! We have just rented a great apartment with a firelace, and your candlesticks will be just right on the mantle.
Thank you so much!
With love from both of us,
Christine

Tank you gifts for money: When givftsof money are given, the ntoe should, if possible indicatw how the money will be spent, it is optional as to wther or not to indicate the amount of the check. Sinc e it is fine to state the amount, do so, just as you would mention the specific item in a thank-you note for aplace setting or a breakdmanker

Dear Aunt Katie and Uncle Brad,
Wow! You have no idea how wonderful it was to open your card and find that incredible check for $100. We used t to help us buy the Ernest Garthwaite painting we've been saving for for the living room, and when we look at it, we'll think of you. Thank you for rearranging your schedules so you could be with us at the wedding, too. Laura and I didnt think we could get married without you there to share that day with us , and we know what trouble you went through to be there. it mean the world to us.

laura sends her love with mine,
Jeremy

We can't all ave perrfect etiquette. For my engagement gifts I wrote

Dear Aunt Sue,

Thanks so much for the increidbly generous gift. We have deposited the $50 into our new joint account and we will be using it for the many things we need as we start our new life together. We can't wait to see you,

Love, J&D

Yes, 3 months, sooner if you have pics already.
I always sing 2 names, even though its not 'proper'.

They should be written as soon as possible but no longer then 3 months after the event.

Great! I'll probably shoot for the guests to receive the TY cards around Thanksgiving. Kill to birds with one stone... lol.

Thanks ladies!

I am so aweful... We just sent ours last week. 5 months.
To my defense I hand wrote special messages to everyone in monogramed cards. I didn't use the standard TY cards they give you. I know that I slipped up on the timing.

We are writing our thank you's the day after the wedding. We wont' be doing anything anyway. This way, my BM and FSIL can mail them out on Monday.

I want them out of my hair as soon as possible.

I did my thank you cards well past the 'deadline' of the 'etiquette' rules. The funny thing is that usually, I am all about 'etiquette.' But, you know what, I was just too busy. I have a very demanding job as does my husband and we have had a lot on our plate. Physically, they could not have been done sooner than I did them.

My point is - I don't care at all. Anyone who is angry or annoyed with me for getting their thank you card late is not someone I want in my life. Its the thought that counts, whenever you send it out. So, just make sure you do.

I just recieved the TY card from the photographer, and I am in my 3 month mark. However, I still did not do the shower list thank you's .

I just wrote the ty for my job's bridal shower gift. Which was given the week, of the wedding so I am still in good timing.

Thank GOD

I'm assuming that you won't be including pictures with your TY's, huh?

I'm one up on you, spitz. I sent out the TYs from the shower the week after it. I haven't received the TY pics from the photographer yet, and it's completely my fault because I just ordered them this week, when I should have 3 weeks ago! Definitely have to catch up when I get them, and probably will send them in groups.

Maybe, maybe not. I have already asked someone to take a special photo of us with my digital camera. This way we can just print the photo at home and insert it into the card. But that is assuming there will be a good photo to print. If not, not a big deal.

Yeah, that was our plan too. But by the time we went through all of the gifts, we were so exhausted and slept for the rest of the day. The next day we had to pack for our honeymoon.
2 months later, and I just picked out our Thank You picture. So I will just make the 3 month timeline.

Re: TY Ettiquette

I didn't get my TY's from my photographer for 4.5 months...once I got them I had them out in a week.

I went to a wedding on 2/28 and received their TY the first week of Oct (she had a similar photographer issue). And a wedding we did not attend, but sent a gift to on 6/5 we still have not received a TY for.

So, I think the timeline has been extended since the days of Emily Post...

I'd get them out as soon as you get the TYs.
