typical price range for photographers?

hi all,

i am thinking of starting to look for a photographer/videographer since people have been saying this is important to book quickly... so i know what is 'reasonable' and what is not, i have questions for those of you who have already met with photogs/booked them:

what is the typical 'range' that they charge? Just so i know what is considered typical and that i'm not being ripped off...

thanks!! :)

for both I'm paying $5895. and that includes engagement session, thank yous, 100 pics in my digital album, 2 parent albums with 24 pics each, wedsite for guests to order prints, cd with all photos, proofs. 3 dvd, and 1 dvd unedited a blown up pic sign board. and i think a few other things i'm forgetting

we are paying 4500 plus tax for both, with albums and such.

We saw some places where the photo was 1600 and video 1600, or get them separately and you can find unedited video for around 1000. Question is what you want. A lot of us go with albums and chaptered DVD's which can add to the cost. but generally, i have seen between 3,000-8,000 for both

I've seen prices between $2000-4000. Like everyone said, it depends what you want. I'm not even sure I want a wedding album. My mom scrapbooks (not just for a hobby-she teaches classes, own well over 2k in 'scrapbooking equiptment and works for creative memories) I'm thinking of asking her to maek the album and just getting the proofs. I honestly LOVE my mom's album's- they're so creative. I'm not sure if FH is gonna go for that. Also, my mom doesnt want a parent album because she can make her own. So hopefully that will save us.

i think should do it it would add some sentimental value to the album ... and i thinku just need to shop around .... like i said my sis got everything and she only paid 700 bucks...i think alot of these photo/videographers are over pricing

Im paying under 5k for photo and video...We decided to save money by not getting parent albums...we can make them later on and it saved us a lot of money!
