UGGH.. I have to complain about my hall

We are spending $20,000 on a wedding (just the hall) and they can't knock off the hotel room rates.. I called and they are charging us $199 a room.. That's if I have 10 rooms blocked, if I don't get 10 rooms blocked it's $206.. a $7 difference, what is the since.. mine as well, not block any rooms.. I am so annoyed, becuase it seemed like the woman wouldn't work with me at all.. she was like, NOPE that's the best we can do.. It's a year away in MARCH!!! thanks girls.. I'm not a good haggler anyway.. so I'll just leave it as is..

Do yourself a favor- find someone in your family who is good at bargaining. I am not, so we are using FMIL- she is great at doing it!!!

if you were planning on using the rooms, you should have negotiated the rates when you booked the hall. now you have very little leverage as they secured your business already

i didn't negotiate well with respect to rooms, don't feel so bad...

We did not block rooms at East Wind for that particular reason..they are very expensive, and you ahve to give 50% deposit, and if all the rooms (10) you blocked are not full, you are responsible for them...

But the other hotels around are not a lot cheaper...we were going to block at best Western East End, its nice, and its close, but its still 149....blocked rate..if your guests call for the AAA rate or AARP rate its only 135.15...(this is for October)

The Hampton Inn is also nice, its a little further, but it has prices of about 139, and if you have 10, you get the free shuttle....

Best Western you get a shuttle too, but I think you had to block 15 rooms for that...we are just deciding to send out our STD and list the names of the hotels, let them call...unles FMIL wants to block them somewhere...

Barrons Cove has some decent rates for off season and their website said it can arrange motorcoach..not sure if thats the jitney or not, but I think staying in Sag HArbor would be so much nicer.....

Who did you speak to - a random woman that works there or you Banquet Manager? If it wasn't your banquet manager I'd be on the phone with her in an instant explaining how unsatisfied you are and while you can't necessarily pull your business you can sure as hell spread the word as to their lack of good customer service.

Thanks girls.. I did negotiate with my banquet manager on the day we booked.. I got him from 229 to $179 so I think that's as good as it's going to get.. Thank god, I found the paper he wrote it on.. So I'm faxing that paper over. we'll see how this works out.. thanks girls.

we stayed the night of our wedding and we did not block rooms.. we put 90 dollars down then had 127 to still pay! so we paid 217 all together .. we did have a few people stay over but not that many! that was one thing i could not get them to budge on but alot of other little things i was able mostly the food and how many kids we would pay half price for. good luck! don't let this ruin you feelings towards them though they where great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My hall is doing the same to me...Inn at Fox Hollow has exorbitant room rates...it's ridiculous!!!

I'm planning to stay there the night before my wedding with the girls and it's a parlor suite 521$ for one night. HAAELLLLOOO, it's the middle of no where why am I paying half a grand? WHo do I negotiate with?

9/4 falls at prime time, but maybe thru the website, send an email to the GM of the Inn...he is very nice...i Emailed him back and forth, but decided not to block rooms there...but he was very nice, and he seemed to wanna work with me...

Good gosh...hotel rooms are so much money!!! I blocked rooms at the Holiday Inn in Ronkonkoma and I thought $125. was alot of money!!! WOW! And just think about my relatives from the South who aren't used to NY weddings and hotels...etc... They think $25-$50 is a nice wedding gift. They may not even come when they get the price of the hotel rooms!!!
