Ugh!!!! Do they put gold in the water in Westchester???

So fine, ladies... you think you have it bad with Long Island home buying. Get this!

A house in Westchester (chappaqua) had not been put on the market yet. But certain realtors were bringing in their clients to see it. Sneaky, right? Well our realtor brought us in last weekend. So, we fall in love with it. And Dh and I decide we are too tired to go back and forth in negotiating. We decide to make an extremely attractive and fair offer that we are pretty sure she would not get if it went to market. We make the offer and say this is it. Take it or leave it pretty much.

Well, they get back to us and say, get this... The offer is 99% accepted but they need a few things. They gave us a list with three things that they need. 1) A mortgage committment- not the pre-approval but the committment letter (which we had already). 2) the Leasing agent wanted to speak with our loan officer at the bank to verify salary and credit. 3) an home appraisal BEFORE the contract gets signed. (Mind you, NO bank will do this, ever and these people insist the bank do it).

I'm like what else do you need to get into this community,-- my blood, my first born? I feel like I am on a scavenger hunt. I just got off the phone with the Listing Agent and told him that this sends off red flags with the bank and the lender wont do it. He said, no problem 'I will supply you with my list of mortgage brokers who will'! Umm, Ugh!!!

Why are these RE's such whor_s???!!!!

Thanks for letting me vent!!!!

I am surprised you got a 'commitment letter' from the bank without being in contract.

I always thought part of the commitment was an approved appraisal (which you cannot get till you are in contract).

we should be getting a commitment without an appraisal...they leave the address off...my fi brother is a mortgage underwriter and he told us that we should get a committment even if we haven't found a house yet. we are waiting on the paper work now.
