It seriously ruined my nails. The last time I got it done I got a very light color and I think at this point I'm just going to let the gel grow out and let my nails grow back in.

The UV gel? How did it ruin your nails? I have a gel manicure right now - it's been on for over 2 weeks and still looks great! I want to do it at least up until the wedding because I don't like tips.

G- did you use the opi gel? my place is amazing. never had a problem. You should have the gel removed, take nail vitamins and then go a few days before wedding. (and you can come to my place)

Yes, when they removed it the last time my nails were so weak underneath and I just had them put the gel on again but my nails are so thin now that they are breaking.

Yeah... but I went to my sister's place and after they soaked it for an eternity it wouldn't come off and they filed some of them... of course I asked them not to do it that way and of course they pretended like they had no idea what I was saying.
My right hand looks like someone ran it through a wood chipper (ok exaggeration) but it's not pretty. I was just looking through boxes for something and the nail on my middle finger bent back and cracked. I wanted to punch something.
I will definitely use your place before the wedding!!

you need to have it removed before it gets worse. I take a good nail hair and skin vitamin and its great. Its GNC brand. Purple bottle. I can bring some next time i see you also. Those gels need to come off! You have plenty of time to grow out and fix before wedding.

This will be my new mission. I'll go tomorrow to have them removed and then make a trip to GNC. You can assess the damage next week for me

Re: UGH Gel Manicure
take biotin, its great for hair and nails
also, the polish needs to be filed a little bit before you soak
and you need to soak in special 'lacquer removal' not regular nail polish remover
i do the gel allll the time, my gf does it for me
also soak each nail with a cotton ball dipped in remover and then wrap each nail with foil.

she'll def bring you some - i received 4 in a napkin a few weeks ago bc the gel ruined my nails too! they were so strong before the gel, and now they are just getting better.

Re: UGH Gel Manicure
how long did you soak for? my place makes me soak for about 40 minutes (while im gettin a pedicure). and even then some of its not easy to get off (depending on the color/coats i think)
i coulddnt even imagine soaking for anything less than 30 minutes, minimum!!!

Re: UGH Gel Manicure
I have to make an appointment to remove the gel manicure. We'll see how my nails look!! My friend who gets the gel frequently was saying her nails are starting to chip on the edges.

40 minutes?
they are not soaking you in the right stuff!
you have to file the polish a little bit, makes a world of difference and it has to be the right polish remover
i normally soak them off for about 15-20 min

Re: UGH Gel Manicure
Crashing! I got the OPI Gel Manicures religiously for about 4 months. I swore by them, defended them when people said they ruined nails, etc. Then I started noticing my nails cracking at the top of my nail bed, etc. It did ruin my nails. I think the gel manicure is fine to get on occasion (like your wedding on engagement photos) but I wouldn't keep it on for an extended amount of time like I did. My nails are refusing to grow now.

Yeah they soak them while I'm getting a pedi but they still always end up having to file them off too,

Yeah they soak them while I'm getting a pedi but they still always end up having to file them off too,
then they aren't using the right stuff. i would try a different salon. your nails are probably damaged bc of all the filing
i never have to file mine off. I soak in the cotton ball/foil wrap with lacquer removal, not regular nail polish remover
and the nail polish just crumbles and slides right off
