UGH- just need to vent

UGH- just need to vent

So my grandma is being a royal pain in the you know what about this whole wedding. For one shes old, so she hates any type of change. You know, your typical old person.. the ones who complain about EVERYTHING and finds no bright side at all.. ANYWAYS I accept that thats how she is now, doesnt bother me.. in fact we have all just adjusted to her new 'view' on life. She goes away every winter from the 1st weekend in january (my moms birthday) till the weekend before easter. We got engaged in October, and because of the amount of birthdays (theres 7 during this time), halloween, thanksgiving and now Christmas, we chose to have our engagement party the 2nd weekend in January. By that time we will be engaged for 3 months and I feel that thats an acceptable amount of time to still throw a party. I dont want to wait till after easter since my cousin is getting married and will be having her bridal shower around than. Id like for that time to be about my cousin. However my grandma just cant bear to spend an extra 6 days here in NY to make it to my engagement party. Apparently its far to cold for her and she cant handle an extra 6 days. I just want to scream. She told my mom that I shouldnt even be having one.. apparently since FH and I have a child already, we shouldnt even be having a wedding. I understand that shes used to how her generation did things... and Ive heard enough times she doesnt believe in engagement parties or the fact that I have a child pre-marriage.. alright got it.. However isnt it ever time to just keep quiet and be happy for your grand-daughter??

Ughhhhh ok Im done venting. Im just so annoyed with hearing all negative things regarding my wedding from her. And now that shes been inconvienced by my engagement party.. it never ends

Wow I can imagine how frustrated u are by your gma. Just reading your post Im frustrated. I dont know how much it means to u if your gma is thr or not but if shes against engagement parties anyway and its such a huge inconvenience to change her trip to a few days later then let her just miss it.

If she cares about you, she will move past it and celebrate your day with you regardless any of her opinions. If it is really an inconvenience and if youre concerned she will be negative throughout the whole party, well then maybe it isnt a bad thing to avoid that experience. Don't worry, it will work out for you and you will have a wonderful day and the room will certainly be full of love for you and your FH

No worries...

Have you told your grandma how you feel? I'm sure she will realize that it would mean the world to have her at the engagement party.

Re: UGH- just need to vent

Thanks guys for letting me vent. My grandma and I have always been very close.. in fact shes lived with my family since my grandpa passed away.. so we're talking 20+ years. Thats what frustrates me the most I guess. It just upsets me that shes gotten to this point in her life where nothing pleases her, and I almost feel as if Im taking the brunt of her frustration. It is upsetting that I almost am at the point where I would rather not have her at the party because she will be a downer.. She knows how I feel about her being there, and shes made it very clear how she feels about the party. It just sucks that a time where everything is supposed to be exciting, fun, and filled with happiness...she is being so negative about the wedding and everything related to it.

uggghhh, im sorry this is happening. Your grandmother probably doesnt understand how much this is hurting your feelings, she just is so set in her ways. Have your engagement party, enjoy it, you cant please everyone!

I am sorry to hear this. At some point try to understand she is old and sometimes they don't realize what they are saying.
