about a week about i posted about just finding out that my dress, which i ordered in september, wasn't going to be shipping until mid-july, which bummed me out because i live out of state.
well, my Mom went down to the shop today because she wanted to find out just why exactly it took so long and we come to find out that THEY NEVER ORDERED THE FREAKIN DRESS. they told my momthey decided it wasn't necessary to order the dress a year in advance when we purchased it last september and they only placed the order in March, even though we explained to them the situation of me living out of state and only coming back to NY 3 or 4 times between last september and our wedding this september. yet, they made their own decision about NOT ordering my dress. they still guarentee it'll be here by my next time home (july 28) so I should be able to go for at least one fitting, but i still can't believe they never ordered the dress. they originally told us it would be in in march too. .. they totally lied. . . i'm even more annoyed than i was last week when i found out it wouldn't be in until mid july. now that i know why, i'm livid. i guess ignorance is bliss. .. thanks for letting me vent

geez, most places push you to order the dress as early as possible. Just follow up with a phone call to make sure they actually ordered the dress and give you their best estimate as to when it will be in. Better yet would be to have this in writing.

I agree. Get it in writing and I would even ask for the order confirmation # from the designer and get a copy of whatever order form they sent to the maker. That's outrageous!!

Re: ugh, more dress drama (kinda long)
that is so stressful! these bridal stores are carzy - some push you to order ASAP and then they dont order it for like months and some are like oh roder it whenever - i am totally stressing about my dress getting here on time even though i was assured that it will

I'm sooooo sorry this happened to you. I can't stand when people take it upon themselves to do something instead of just doing what you asked them to do !! You're buying the dress from them !! What the F**K ?
This happened to me - i ordered my dress in Aug '06 called in Nov '06 and find out they never placed the order so now comes January when i finally get the dress & it's a size bigger than I ordered. So I took the dress & went elsewhere for alterations....and have since taken it in 2 dress sizes.
People say to me 'it wouldn't be a wedding without something going wrong!'

i'm glad they actually ordered your dress when you called to inquire about it. they originally told us the dress would be IN in march because i was going to be home in NY for easter and we wanted to check it out. i called EVERY WEEK in march and even once in mid-april to ask about it and they kept telling me not to worry about it. finally my mom got fed up and went down there, only to find out they've been lying the whole time!!!!

Re: ugh, more dress drama (kinda long)
oh I believe it...... I've always suspected shops did that.... especially to brides who are not ordering a 7k couture gown (where there's obviously a swat team making every cm of lace by hand), yet are told it will take 6+ months for the dress to come in. this way, they get to earn interest on all the gown deposits for several months.....
I bet that is standard practice in many shops.... similar to the less than honest clipping of designer labels....
The only shops that probably DON'T do that are those bulk discount outlets like RK. (got my gown in 6 weeks.... it arrived 8 months before the wedding...)
what can you do.... bridal shops are a bit like used car dealerships.... the bulk of them shouldn't really be trusted....

Re: ugh, more dress drama (kinda long)
we had a similar experience happen to us when my sister was getting married- my other sister at the time was living in germany- long story short, she got her dress altered like 2 days before the wedding- talk about stress.
For my dress, the BM dresses and my mom's dress- the stores all have my date as 12/8/07 and not 12/29/97- just so I don't have an added stress
