ughh my mother is such a PIA- VENT

So I told my Nana and my mom I wanted to use my Nana's veil from her wedding gown because my Nana used it as well as my mom and 2 aunts. So it is 52 years old.

I thought it would be nice to take the head piece and use the actual netting of the veil and get it set into a new comb.

Well I told my mom that I wasnt wearing a tiara or a normal head piece. I want to wear my hair a certain way that I just want to have a nice clip in my hair. So the head piece of my Nana's veil obviously wouldn't work and I told my mom that. Well tonight we take down my Nana's wedding dress and veil and I was excited because I was going to bring it to get recombed and steamed straight. Well my mom says why are you going to take the head piece off of the veil. And I told her AGAIN because I am not wearing a headpiece just a clip and wanted to set the veil in a new comb. Then she said well the netting isnt original only the headpiece attached to it is. So I said oh no nevermind than and I was a little disappointed. But my mom was like Wait why dont you want it anymore. And I said because I am not wearing a HEADPIECE just the veil and a clip and if it's not the original netting I am not going to wear it. She said oh well thats stupid why wouldn't you wear the headpiece your just going to have a veil with a comb on it??

AND SHE COULDN'T believe I didnt want the headpiece- first off its pretty but not for my style or for 2007!!!!!!!!

I am just soo disappointed that every idea I have my mom puts it down or gets all like well why not why arent you doing that we did that when we got married. Even my makeup trial- and my hair (which i get done tomorrow) she was like oh well dont do it that way. And also the dress I like she doesnt understand why I want an A-line style.

UGHHH weddings definitely bring out the worst in people.

i'm sorry :( My grandma offered me her veil but when we took it down we discovered it was pretty ripped and i thought of having new netting put on but i felt it wouldn't be the same.. so i totally get how you feel. It's like your basically wearing something new then... it isn't the same feeling! Your mom probably can't see it cause it's not something she would have wanted Hope she comes around!!!!

thanks Heather. Sure ill give you my address....

Yeah like some things she gets excited about but then i mention what type of thing i am looking for or want and shes like 'oh why that way' or like the dress i said it is pretty but for like 1950's and i wouldnt wear it and i know for a fact no girls on my mom's side of the family is going to wear that dress. and she was like you never know. and i said MOM its 2007 no one in our family is going to wear Nana's dress from 52 years ago.

She gets mad that the things i want to do at my wedding which is not weird or anything- well def not to us LIWers she thinks are silly or doesnt understand why i want it that way because she doesnt understand its 2007 mom not 1980 when you got married.

thank you. you just make everything look better you really do i appreciate it. you made me smile finally cause after talking to my mom about wedding stuff i feel its not even worth it anymore and to just go do things without her. like dress shopping i dont want to do with her. i honestly would rather go with my dad. haha

Awww. I'm sorry she is giving you a hard time. Sometimes moms dont have a filther the tell them not to say the things they are saying- they just blurt it out.

Have you tried telling her that things are totally different now and thats why you are doing certain things?

Honestly, my mom is the same way. We have COMPLETELY opposite tastes. So I just leave her out of stuff.

Adopt the motto 'my day, my way' and tell her that your decisions regarding the wedding are not up for debate/criticism/negotiating.

Moms always have to put their two cents in.

christine- first off thank you for your reply back about florists. I am sorry I havent written you back but I left work and went straight to the hospital to visit my grandma and then completely forgot. But thank you so muhc for that info I appreciate it. I am def going to check them out now.

And yea I try to tell her- Mom things are different not every girl wears a puffy wedding dress, or does the garter toss (which i am doing for HER) and not every girl needs to wear a veil. Which I could tell she was disappointed when I said I wasnt wearing my veil throughout hte whole Reception. I think because she never had the chance to go look for a wedding dress herself and pretty much had the minimal when her and my dad got married she is trying to do what she wanted at the time. But she has to understand things are different

and I love my mom we hardly ever fight but recently over the wedding- I cant even talk to her about it anymore because I get so let down or disappointed and sometimes feel like i dont even want something big anymore

Bonnie...I am glad someone else understands how crazy moms can be because we dont have the same taste. I do want my mom to come dress shopping with me but I know its going to be a fight during the hole process.

And also I actually said that to her today that I dont like when people ahve opinions and then get mad when I dont consider them- This is MY wedding. I mean yes I listen to what my mom has to say but if I dont like hte idea I am not going to consider it and it may sound mean. But she was like oK i got you you dont have to keep telling me. she gets defensive.
