Ughh Vent!

Ughh Vent!

Kinda long sorry.

But tonight at dinner my mom brought up religion I forget why. Now my parents go to church pretty much every sunday, they sent us to Catholic School's up until college-then it was our choice. My parents also did the no sex until marriage thing no living together before marriage! Let's put it this way- there religion is a lot more important to them than it is me.

But I get very defensive- just naturally like that I can't help it. But tonight I told my mom that I don't believe you have to go to church every Sunday in order to believe in God and be a good Catholic. I also said I don't know what I believe in as of now- I am Catholic I dont mind going to church as long as I am not forced to go. I also would like to get married in a Catholic Church because I grew up with it....and I am not saying I am not going to want to ever go to Church again once I move out of my house- but I feel that when I have children I will not force them to go to Church if they dont want, I will not say they are choosing the wrong decision if they want to have sex before marriage or live together before marriage. However, my mom also told me she doesnt mind if I dont want to believe in what she does, however- I know deep inside she does and I am sort of a disappointment to her since I dont believe what she believes in. She said she raised me Catholic and would like me to keep the way she is blah blah blah. I understand and respect my parents, but then my dad told me not to get married in the Catholic Church if I didnt know what I believed in, because it was a sin (SORRY DONT mean to offend anyone by saying this- my parents are just really religious). My mom also thinks I should be grateful I have this faith cause it helped her get through the death of my younger brother and I should take that into consideration that my brother is in heaven with God. And I agree I believe he is in a better place.

BUT MAN it ***** cause my parents dont agree with when I will move in with my FH before we get married.

I dont know what to do now- do I not get married in the church...what are some of you guys doing whose parents feel the same as mine do???

TIA....sorry so long again!!

Ugh, sorry you are going thru this!!

Getting married in a church is something that I had to do because I always pictured walking down the aisle in my church since I was a little girl. Regardless of what anyone says, if it is something that you always wanted...just do it! You will regret it if you dont!

I think you just have to decide if its important to you and if you will regret not doing it because someone told you that you shouldnt. You just dont want to have any regrets...you dont get do overs with your wedding!

Catie, this is Amanda's mom (mrs stickypoo). Going to church is a formality these days its what most girls always dreamed of as far as their wedding from a fairytale side, not the religion side of it. lets face it when you pictured yourself walking down the isle you werent thinking about God you were thinking of your gown and looking beautiful, but if in your heart you believe there is a god, thats all you need to be married in front of him. you dont have to think the religion is as the bible is written to have faith. it doesnt make you a bad person to have moved on to modern ways. i do say you shouldnt get married in church if you feel there is no base for religion. in other words you feel there is no god. lets be honest girls, how many brides really go to church every sunday, but still get married in church? parents can always make you feel guilty if you dont do things the way they would. as far as living with him before you are married, thats a personal choice also. i dont agree with living together for the reason that if it didnt work out then what happens, you move on to the next and then the next until you find the right one, but thats probably cause im old lol. catie, all i know is do what YOU want for YOU, believe me i have made many decisions over the years to make others happy and i regret every one. please make YOURSELF happy. believe me your mom will get over it.
