Ughhh Work Ventttt - SORRY, more nonsense update

I am soooo PEEEEVED right now.

So every other day there is a card that is circulated in the office for somebody's birthday/shower/baby.

That is FINE. I have no problem contributing to people I know and like but they are so IN YOUR FACE with it and will have a 'list' of the whole office and cross people off as they pay and even write the amount next to their name so you feel shamed/harrassed into paying even if you don't LIKE the person which has happened a few times to me.

So we have 3 interns this summer and a couple of my coworkers decided to do a card for them and ask for contributions. Fine, great. I like the interns but keep in mind that it's a paid internship ($15 an hour) and they have been in a room together all summer chilling.

I'm planning to give 10 each not to mention the 40 dollars a few weeks ago I contributed to 2 separate baby showers and it adds up!

The part that has me ENRAGED right now is that the two coworkers who started this card are not going to be here for the rest of this week and dumped the card on me and gave ME a list of people to harass for money and a 'target' goal.

W T F! I HATE asking people for money. It was your idea, YOU DO IT

UPDATE:


OKay, I'm about to SCREAM. My boss just walked in to our room (one of the people I was told to ask ) and is looking for some document.

My coworker asks me 'where's the card?' and then makes a motion as in 'go on, hurry, ask him'

The NERVE! It's one thing to ask me to do this because you won't be around tommorow but HELLO, you're here now so YOU ASK HIM.

I replied in a tense tone 'I'm not asking him anything when he's in the middle of LOOKING for something.'

I need to get the hell out of here. 7 more mins

That stinks!

Just pass it to someone and tell them to pass it on!

It's there responsibility, not yours.

Just put a note on it to give it back to you when everyone is done!

send out a mass email to everyone except the interns and say 'i have the card at my desk .. please donate $$$ to ____ by coming to me by the end of the week. thanks so much!'

ps: that's ridiculous that they write how much you gave! a gift is a gift, the amount should not be noted!

ughhhh I FREAKING HATE THIS!!!!!! My effin job think when ppl quit we should contribute $10 as a farewell gift. ***! They are obviosuly leaving for a better job opportunity. They should give me a gift for still be stuck here. But they make you feel like an Jerkface if you don't. I hate it!

One girl racked up $1000 for her wedding shower and never came back after she got married.

When I was an intern, we didn't get gifts. We got cards and cake, but that was it and that was fine. Your office is too nice.

We used to too!! I don't get it!

Last summer was the first summer we gave interns a monetary gift and it was totally appropriate because we moved offices so they were doing physical manual labor every day.

I personally don't think they deserve anything extra this summer since they've had it way easy! Maybe because they did it last year?

I DON'T KNOWWW.

Also, 'the list' is also a recent development too. When I first started, it was so much more laidback with the card just passed from person to person.

I dunno what happened but it's annoying as F*ck

I got a bouquet of flowers for being and intern for 5 months, Mon-Fri 9-6pm, not paid

some of my friends my age dont even make $15 an hour right now

that is the only reason I included their wage. That is GOOD money for an intern!

It is very good money for an intern IMO.

i thin you can do the email idea asking whomever wants to partcipate to come see you that way you dont have to feel pushy.....

All i know is maybe i should apply for this intern job you all speak of....sounds like i can make some serious extra cash

this is what they do at my job.

my company is HUGE too and they take up collections for EVERYTHING - death, sickness, showers, holidays, bla bla bla. i don't bother contributing b/c most of the time i don't know who the person is. if the person happens to be a friend, i just get a gift on my own. i think it's absolutely ridiculous.

exactly! If someone I was close with had a baby/got married/had a birthday, I get them my own gift! Then I'm asked to contribute on top of that and it makes me nuts.

And what's really unfair are some of the quieter/.shy people never get showers or birthday gifts because people don't know what's going on in their lives but are asked to contribute for others???

ugh so annoying!!!

we used to hustle ppl for money at my job too
and then someone came up with the idea called 'the sunshine club'

basically everyone contributes $5/month

and then with the collection a cake is bought for each person who has a bday that month

this way noone is giving money and worried about who is giving more or less

and everyone gets to feel like their bday is celebrated

as for the baby/bridal showers...we dont collect money...we pick a day/time everyone brings a food item and everyone brings their own gift

the whole money thing is just way too much
