Uh Oh, I think I stuck my foot in my mouth.....

My father who lives out of state called and when we were talking asked me about my brother & his wife.
He asked if my brother's wife calls all the shots in that household.I said 'absolutely' and I gave him some examples.I told him not to say anything.I was trying to help my brother actually by saying that because my father was angry over something he did.We both don't get along great with our father half the time.My brother's wife DOES get whatever she wants all the time.Anyway when I hung up,my husband said I just stuck my foot in my mouth because you know your dad will say something.Oh well,its the truth.

Don't sweat it. See what happens, maybe nothing will. If it does say.....ummm.....

Knowing my father, he will say something to my brother and he will get annoyed.I can see him also saying something to his wife and my SIL getting really witchy!!!!!

Its the truth though but my father is an instigator so I shouldn't have told him stories about them.

JK, I really don't have any advice, becasue I do the same thing all the time, and I haven't learned yet! But don't feel bad you are not the only one who does this!!!

I can't deny. I gave him examples of things my SIL did. My father would never know because he doesn't live near us.He lives far away.
I am trying to get along with my father.He almost died over the summer.He is sick.
I didn't want to cause trouble with my poor brother though.

Could you maybe call your Dad and tell him not to repeat what was said, and that if it is repeated then you wqould be very upset with him.

Or maybe call and tell your dad that in the heat of the conversation, you over exaggerated some things and maybe back peddle.

all you can really do is wait and see if your brother confronts you and then apologize to him if he does...tell him you were trying to get the heat off of him but realized you shouldn't have gone so far as to give examples...but if you really feel your SIL calls the shots, then whats true is true, ya know? If your brother doesn't like it he should tell his wife to back off!

How good is your relationship with your brother? You could always call him and 'fess-up that you stuck your foot in your mouth by telling your father a bit too much, and that you said it trying to keep him (your brother) out of hot water, but in retrospect, fear you may have said too much.

At least that way, your brother will hear it from you, and hear the truth, instead of what your father chooses to say, which may be exaggerated.

Tell your brother the truth - you did say those things, but only because you were trying to be the peacemaker between he and your dad. Tell him you're so upset about whats going on with them that in the moment you thought you were helping. How could he stay mad after that?
