uh oh...dress dilemma

uh oh...dress dilemma

So I ordered the dress that my mom and sisters said looked good on me....but haven't ever been in love with it. It came in a couple of weeks ago and I thought maybe when I tried it on again, I would love it. So, I liked it more than I did when I first bought it...and I think it has to do with the fact that I lost some weight, but I still don't love it.

1. I'm concerned I'm showing too much skin, and I'm not sure if I can get a bolero or sleeves or anything added to it

2. I don't love how I look in it...I don't get that giddy feeling when I think about it, or look at it, or look at me in it.

So, my dilemma is.....should I look for another dress, and do I even have time to at this point?? Or, should I just put my uncertainties aside and say it's too late anyway??

If I should look for another one....can anyone recommend a really good store (that also does great alterations) in Nassau...preferably not further out than Hicksville. Thanks!!

I am sorry to hear that you aren't that excited about your dress. If I was you I would look to see if you fall in love with another dress. When you look back 10, 20, 30 years from now at pictures you want to know you LOVED and felt good in your dress. I am sure someone can get a dress to you in time for your wedding. I say go take a look it can't hurt!

With 3 months and a little bit to go I really dont think gettinga new dress is possible-ask your bridal salon. You MAY be able to find something off the rack-but you also may not love it.

Let me also say that I did not by any means get a giggly, crying, emotional feeling when I found my dress. I just put it on-and was done. That was it. Not everyone will get emotional over it.

Good Luck, HTH even jsut a little

you could get a dress at like david's bridal.. check it out and see if you like it or not.. you could get it altered and back in time..

i'm sure on the day off when you are completely put together, with DOJ, the veil, makeup and you are in that mode, you will absolutely radiant and lovely... is it jitters, or do you just can't picture yourself getting married in it at all??

I agree with AR31. You are going to look beautiful in whatever you wear. But if you really feel that strongly about go to David's Bridal. They are probably the only ones you can get a dress from quickly. Good Luck!

Re: uh oh...dress dilemma

Do you have a picture of the dress that you can post so we can help you ?
There are options that can be done if you feel you are showing too much skin.
MJDoc added a modesty panel to the bodice of her dress.
I added sleeves to my sleeveless dress, and ordered the bodice to be cut higher.
I'm sure other girls altered their dresses, and I do recall a bride ordering a bolero jacket. Just can't remember which bride.....

What specifically about the dress makes you not so in love with it ?
Do you have a picture of you in it ?
Did you try it on with your veil and DOJ to get the 'whole picture' ?

Remember, we are here to help you.

You could go for a sample dress or one from David's as suggested above.

But I also suggest you reframe your feelings on your current dress. Not everyone gets teary around their wedding dress. If you make your expectations more reasonable, you may get more clarity on how to proceed, whether or not that means going for a new one.

Plus, as discussed above, seamstresses and tailors can do quite a lot with changing things about your current dress.

I agree with the davids bridal idea. You would be surprised at how nice there dresses are. I ordered a dress there and it can back within a month of ordering it

I had the same problem. I bought a dress at a sample sale that was the best one I had seen so far, but it turned out I didn't really love it. I went shopping for my friend's bridesmaids dresses and I saw the most amazing (and pricer) dress. Everyone said I should get the new one– so I ordered it. I am so excited about the new one– but I now have to sell my old one.

i would look around...maybe not be set to buy but look...does something else catch your eye?? At this point tho you mmight be limited to davids bridal, or samples that have been pulled since they are disc....some salons will sell them for a fraction of the pice and fix them up too

I was not wowed when I got my dress either.
I felt like there was something wrong with me.
I did love the dress but I never got real emotional about it. My Mom and Grandma did that is why I chose the dress I did.
I had a second dress that I had planned on wearing for late eve and afterparty. I never wore it b/c I fell in love w/something off the rack on a sample sale.

I ordered this one on line it came in 1 month bfr my wedding and it Brand New - Diamond white.

FM if your interested.

Re: uh oh...dress dilemma

Thanks for all the advice girls.

I think I'm going to contact the seamstress to see what she can do in terms of a capped sleeve or something. I think I'm also going to try and lose some more weight.

A picture of the dress is in my album....but I am considerably curvier than the model in the picture, and while my mom and sisters say i look good in this dress, I think something with a fuller skirt would balance me out better?

ahhh, i just don't know anymore.

Yes a capped sleeve would be possible or a beautiful antique lace shrug could be made! Good luck with the seamstress! Let us know how you made out!!!

Don't stress yourself out too much over this. You might want to take a day and go over to David's Bridal or go into the City to RK and see what they have just so you see different things. See if there's anything that just pops.

I didn't have the fireworks reaction either to my dress, but I felt comfortable in it and in the end, it was 'my' dress.

Like the other girls said, talk to your salon and see what can be done to help you feel more comfortable in it. Also think about how you'd have your hair done b/c that may help you visualize the final picture a bit better too. But don't over think it either! You can drive yourself nuts with 'what ifs' and that's just not worth it.

I also didn't get that giddy, OMG this is THE ONE feeling either. I thought I was abnormal until I spoke to my sister and a few others and they said the same thing....they liked the dress, but wasn't like OMG this is my dress.
I think that once you put your dress on, headpiece, jewelry and your hair and makeup is done you will LOVE the way you look. More importantly I bet your FH will LLOOOVVEEE the way you look.

I would goback and try it on with a bolero, talk to thelady helping you and express your concerns, they will give you options.

If you are still not happy, I would try Davids or another store where you can buy off the rack. Good Luck

Honestly I think you need to feel happy with your dress. If you not crazy about it go check around you might love another dress and if they have a sample there you go. Definitely go look at other dresses it will make you feel better.

Your dress is beautiful from the pic in your album see if they can add drop sleeves or a nice shaul to wrap around your shoulders to make you more comfortable but your wedding is right arund the corner you should stay with the one you have
