Uh oh...I said the 'p' word...loong, sorry

I went home for lunch before and was talking to FH about our having kids. I mentioned that I would be able to work from home..yadayadayada...then he says that he wants to be in FDNY (his dream job) and own his own electrical contracting business on the side (He is a union electrician right now--he's still an apprentice- but by the time FDNY calls he'll probably be liscensed)

Anyway, I said that it wouldn't be necessary for him to own his own business b/c I will be inheriting my father's Electrical Contracting Company and we can run it together. He said 'Well, I want to be the boss, so I want my own company.' (He was half kidding- I think)


So then I said 'Well, then I guess you'll have to sign a pre-nup saying that my father's copany is mine if god forbid anything ever happens.' I was kidding--or at least mostly kidding...

He FREAKED out! He went on and on and on about how I have the nerve to even say that and that if I ever asked him to sign something he wouldn't marry me! I was shocked! I wasn'y even serious! I would NEVER even consider a pre-nup for real unless my father requested it (It is HIS (well technically my grandfathers) company after all)

He says he doesn't think I trust him..I trust him 100%!


We left off on good terms, but it still bothers me, because I think he's still mad.

I swear I was only kidding--although, I was curious to how he would react...now I know!!

oops...well you weren't expecting that reaction and you said you were sorry. Make it up to him tonight

ooo....you hit a nerve on that one!

maybe secretly deep down he always worried that your family or you would think he was after the company and the money behind it. he probably never really addressed it with you and that's why he flipped out when you said it---like you joked about his biggest fear!

i'm sure he'll get over it, but if you want, you could always just re-assure him again that you really were joking and that you would never think such a thing about him.

I'm sure he was annoyed but, being that he's a guy, he might be over it already, while you are sitting here feeling bad about what you said (it happens a lot with FH and I, I feel miserable and he's put it behind him).

I agree-sometimes thats how FH is! The one time I mentioned a pre-nup I was actually asking him if he thought we should have one-not saying we should but asking an he bugged out I laugh now but it wasnt funny-he was so over it 5 minutes later and I was still having issues!

lol-- I called him right after I posted and asked if he was still mad...he said 'About what?'

I don't think it's a matter of trust. But god forbid the dreadful 'D' happens, who's to say how either of you will react? Some people get all Jeckyl & Hyde. You wouldn't want to jeopordize something your father and grandfather worked hard for their whole life.
But if your relationship is concrete solid, then I wouldn't worry too much about it! You know your FH the best.
