fh is refusing to sign another lease where we are -we thought we would close on a home by now but we didnt oh well such is life - anyway the rent is going up 250 dollars per month - he doesnt want to sign the lease because of this. He thinks they are screwing him over. Well helloooooooooo our lease is up in less than a month and WE CANT FIND ANYTHING -soooooooooooo im freaking out and hes just as cool and calm as can be. :

250 is a lot to increase though! Especially in this economy! Is the landlord somebody who owns lots of property? I don't know your situation, but you could try and shop around for similar sized/set up places and get quotes. If you approach your landlord with that, he/she might reconsider. I had a friend who did that and actually ended up paying less than she was previously, because she found out that lots of places are going for less just to get someone in the place. The landlord might be hiking the price to cover empty places elsewhere, but it's not going to help him/her to have an empty apartment and nothing coming in!

I did not think about that yes!!!!.. they own alot of properties all over the country there's about 8-10 Properties on LI I will definitely go to the leasing office and see if i can talk to them. TY

You're welcome. I would really play it off like you have no option but to move because you can't take a $250 hike. Even if you showed them Craigslist postings of similar places managed by other companies that are cheaper (to show there are places available) and threaten to move. Even if you don't really want to, they don't need to know that....
