Ultimate Bed

Ultimate Bed

Has anyone seen this or know of anyone that has something like it? I saw it while reading Martha Stewart Living last night and I had to read more about it on-line. It looks really cool and is a great idea to get rid of some dressers (not sure if I could do that completely) and it says it is made of real oak or pine.

I know, isn't it COOL? I want it too, when I got a quote on-line, it only came out to be about $1600 but when you think about how it eliminates dressers, nightstands, and gives you a headboard (all of what I need) that doesn't seem THAT expensive, does it? I think I got a quote for the 6 drawer piece and not the 12 as shown in the picture.

Im thinking the same thing. $1600 really isnt that much since a couple of dressers can set you back that much. I think it really depends on how well constructed it is. Do they have a real life showroom or is it online only? The online thing scares me when it comes to furniture b/c it can look great online and aweful in person.

Do you already have a mattress? I priced out the 12 drawer one and it was about $1600 excluding a mattress.

Re: Ultimate Bed

Stef, yes, I would use my existing mattress because it is only a year or so old. I don't think they have a showroom but I am so naive, I order everything on-line! But I could see what you are saying with wanting to see it in person.

That is so cool!! I love that it's so modular since we have a new head board & night tables already. I book marked the site to show DH later.

Stace: Do you think you are going to get it?

Re: Ultimate Bed

Wow - very cool! Our mattress set alone was about $1k. Just be sure the quality of the mattress and drawers are in good shape and that's an awesome deal!

Re: Ultimate Bed

I'm not sure, I have to show it to Gary and see what he thinks.

Teri: The mattress isn't the issue since we already have one.

I have to look at the measurements and see how big it will be in our bedroom.

Stef, what is your feeling on it?

Teri, If you want, you can order the mattress too.

I noticed on the sight that there's a 30 day money back gte. Not that I am dying to have that hassle but at least it's an option if we hate it.

Re: Ultimate Bed

I really like it. Im looking for some 'storage solutions' in our bedroom too.

We dont really need a new bed. We have a perfectly good one...so that is the #1 thing that would hold me back at this point. But Im going to show it to Luke when he gets back from his trip to see what he thinks. We were actually looking for this very thing when we started bed shopping but never found it.

If you end up ordering, i would love to hear all about it.

Re: Ultimate Bed

These are my cons against it...

Not sure I want to squat on the floor to look for the clothes in the drawers.

If I get rid of my dressers, I don't have a place for my TV! I saw you could order a TV stand but that doesn't work with my dish and VCR.

And the whole idea to get this WOULD be to get rid of dressers....I have a walk in closet now and if I have to get dressed early in the morning, I walk into the closet and don't wake Gary. I could see myself rummaging through (or even him) the underside of the bed looking for clothes at 5 am!

Re: Ultimate Bed

If we were to get it, I wouldnt get rid of all my dressers, I would just replace the mix match of big ones with one nice one for the TV and such. I dont think that i have THAT many clothes - but i need way more than the dressers in that bed to hold all my stuff

Re: Ultimate Bed

Here is another storage bed with the description from http://www.woodstuff.com/beds.htm. It is shown unfinished, but I'm sure there are stores that will finish them for you for a fee...

These are made in Maine and represent exceptional value. Drawers are dovetailed. Storage beds have 6 drawers on one side or 12 drawers (6 on each side.) .Captains beds have one row of drawers, 3 on one or both sides. It is, of course, lower.
Note: twin can only have 3 or 6 drawers on one side. Full, queen and king come in 2 pieces to fit through doorways. A true space saver:

Twin captain's...................$277
Full captain's ....................$426
Queen captain's.................$438
King captain's....................$462
Twin storage......................$415
Full storage 6 drawer..........$591
Full storage 12 drawer........$684
Queen storage 6 drawer......$629
Queen storage 12 drawer....$721
King storage 6 drawer.........$721
King storage 12 drawer.......$820

Re: Ultimate Bed

Ive seen the capts bed before but when there are only one or two drawers per side, its not really 'worth' it b/c I put stuff under my bed as is it. It needs to be high and have a bunch of drawers to eliminate my dressers.

Love this set:

Oh, to have a large bedroom.

Edited to add: The bed alone on this set is more than the Ultimate bed!
