Uncomfortable Hairdresser Issue! Help! (Long Story-Sorry!)

Uncomfortable Hairdresser Issue! Help! (Long Story-Sorry!)

Soooo. I have been going to my current hairdresser for over 10 years now for highlights and cuts, and I love her. She stopped doing updo's probably 5 years ago because she has servere arm and neck problems from doing hair (she still cuts and colors, but can't do blow-outs anymore, either.) She told me like 2 years ago that for when I got married she'd be happy to do an updo, and I kind of just was like 'oh, ok' and it wasn't brought up again--I am definitely going to use another hairdresser, the one my FSIL used for her wedding 3 years ago. I absolutely LOVED my hair and I really liked the salon (and it's right in my town) so there was no question of who I would use for my own. Plus, I have never seen an updo from my current hairdresser and I am a more than a little nuts when it comes to my hair.

So when I got engaged, my hairdresser was like 'I really want to do your hair for your wedding!' So I replied uncomfortably that I wanted to be with all my BM's and that I needed someone to do everyone, and since I have 9 BM's and my MIL and mom, it may be too much for her to do. She winked at me and was like 'I have other girls I will call in to help.' I know who she has in mind and I've actually seen the updos from a wedding my FSIL was in--I wasn't impressed. At all.

So I kind of didn't say anything because I am so non-confrontational and I don't want to hurt her feelings! I know she wouldn't charge me personally for my hair and I know she really wants to do it as a favor. She also told my mom, who uses her as well, that she was excited to do my hair for the wedding--my mom didn't know what to say. She is far for me, all the way in Islip (I'm in East Npt), so I was gonna use that excuse for the wedding day--that I didn't want to be going all over the place. But what should I do, and how? Should I bring it up? Should I wait until she mentions it? Should I use the too-far excuse? I feel terrible about it and I am SO BAD with things like this...but I def know I don't want to use her! I'm getting nervous just thinking about it. My hairdresser is kind of tough, too. UGH! I'm seeing her next week....blah

omg, i would be the same way as you haha! i would probably wind up not getting my hair done by her before the wedding so i could avoid the situation. i'm such a baby.

sorry, that was really no help whatsoever but at least you know there's someone else like you out there lol

I am so sorry, I'm really not sure! I would imagine that using the 'too far' excuse would be a 50/50 shot - she might offer to come to you! How are her updo's? Would she be able to do a trial since she is in such pain? I would ask those questions and if you feel comfortable go with her for yourself and then tell her that you are getting someone else for the bm's and rest of bridal party.... just a thought.

You could say that your bridal party surpirsed you with a 'make up and hair package' for the wedding. Tell her that its someone who does weddings specifically and they got the deal because they are all going to use her/them.

BEST IDEA EVER!!!!

And then, ask her if she would do your hair for your rehersal. (it doesnt need to be fancy, but it will let her feel like she got to do you that favor)

Eek! I would try to avoid the situation... If it comes up, just say you haven't fully decided on hair yet.

Awww ok first of you need to be 100% comfortable with whos doing your hair on your wedding day! You should def go for some trials with different stylists and see what you like best. You don't wanna take chances on the day of your wedding ya know? Its a tough situation you are but easy to get out of. Heres some things you can say:

1) You and your BP need someone to come to the house on the day of

2) Its too far to travel with your BP that day especially cause you might have a make up eprson coming to your house.

3) Tell her your BP chipped in and surprised you with Gift Certificates to get your hair and make up done and you dont want to hurt their felings by saying no to using it..???

Let me know if I can help u at all.. Im here!

Re: Uncomfortable Hairdresser Issue! Help! (Long Story-Sorry!)

this is your only other choice...write her a letter that goes as follows:

Dear (whatever her name is),

I am pleased and thankful that you have expressed such interest in doing my hair for my wedding. I regret to inform you that my wedding is taking place in Sweden...

I know what you might say..'i will travel there for you.' While I thank you for the sentiment, we actually are having the event in a under ground lair. The ceremony and reception are being held on a plateau in the center of an under ground lava lake, and we are REALLY limited on the number of people we can permit there, lest we sink into the magma and die.

I know what you are thinking...'i can do your hair outside of the lair eariler in the day.' While I am so over whelmed with gratitude, I am sorry to tell you that we will be married by a priest of a certain sect of a long forgotten druid religion. He insists that we follow all of the customs and requirements of their wedding ceremony, and that includes spending 3 days underground covered in cow poop and cheerios. After that, our hair is cut off and fashioned into the veil I will wear on my bald skull that day.

But thanks any way.

Love this idea. The only other thing I can think of is saying that an out of town relative or friend of yours is a hairdresser and really wants to do your hair as a gift for you (the out of town would explain why you dont normally use them).

Good luck!
