my dress is a strapless mermaid and i have a bit of a tummy that i want to squash and just have a nice shape. what undergarments would you girls suggest? longline bra or those spanx that come up to just under your boobs?

I think you can do either but I think a corset may be more comfy.

I would just get both and try them on when you go dress shopping or for your first fitting. It's so hard to tell what will work for you until you try it on. I was dead set on no corset and wanted cups sewn in but I tried it and hated how it looked (pushed my chest way to high which gave me under arm creases). Then I thought I wouldnt wear a bra, but that didn't give me enough cleavage lol. So my seamstress suggest a corset bra. Which worked and is pretty comfortable.

I'm actually wearing both. I wear spanx midthigh shaper daily with work skirts and dresses. I am obsessed with them so it pretty much goes without saying I am wearing a pair under my dress as well. I am also wearing a corset. I think having the spanx under the corset helps to smoothe the overall look and not have an under corset bulge. I would buy both and see how they work under your dress because it probably depends on your body and your exact dress style.

for those who suggested a corset, where did you get yours? is that just a longline bra with the boning going down the bodice, or an actual lace up corset?

Also, keep in mind that you need to find something comfortable and something that won't take forever to get off/pull down when you have to use the bathroom!

Mine is not a corset that laces up, it has hook and eye closure. I got it at Great Shapes in Roslyn. LOVE that store. I have heard good things about Bra Tenders in the city but don't have any personal experience there.
