Just wondering the area Around Union Blvd is a good, safe area? This is in ISlip. Thanks, Scott

Re: UNION BLVD in ISLIP - Good Area???
I live on Union in the Woodlands, but I personally wouldn't live directly on Union as it's very busy. I think the area itself is nice enough, but be sure you're on the Islip side and not the Bay Shore side. Hope this helps.

I agree. It gets not so nice in Bay Shore. Were you looking at the Woodlands? I lived in Islip before we moved, and loved it, but I don't think I would buy a house on Union since it is such a busy street. Good luck.

As a complex the Woodlands is much nicer, though more expensive.

I looked at Forest Green when I was buying at the Woodlands. I would keep away from it IMO. I've heard they have various 'problems'.

Whats wrong with Bayshore? We just bought a townshouse in Bayshore and its in a nice area. Very nice, new large houses in the blocks surrounding. And there is a brand new townhouse/condo area 1 block over. We are a few blocks off main street and its so nice there!!

From what I know of Suffolk...BayShore has a bad reputation just like Brentwood, Mastic, Shirley and Flanders....

I know the area you are talking about and it is lovely. Bay Shore is a great town and I go to the restaurants there all the time, but it does have it's bad areas (like most towns). In this case, the particular development Scott is talking about and the immediate surrounding area is not so good.

I get what you are saying. Most towns have good/bad areas. We didnt want to look in Bayshore at all at first, but our Real Estate person told us that it was the nicer area of Bayshore and to at least take a look at the plcae. Her boss actually lived in the exact townshouse we are buying about 8 years back. And we are glad we looked bc we found a great place that doesnt need a lot of work.

Every town on Long Island has 'good' and 'bad' parts. I live in Massapequa, there are parts where houses sell for $200,000 and parts where they sell for over 2 million. Every town can be called 'good' or 'bad'.

I almost got mugged at the Bank of NY ATM twice on Main Street in Bay Shore, which is right across from an extremely expensive condo complex. The area with the fast food places around the bank is a little seedy--and I no longer go to that ATM by myself at night.

I wouldn't be afraid, it's good to be careful anywhere. I'd just say for shopping and stuff go to Islip instead of the Bay Shore stores. Islip has a really cute Main Street with great stores and restaurants (you have to try my favorite, Bayberry Cafe where DH and I had our first date!).
