Unique situation and out of state

Unique situation and out of state

Hey guys I am new here and I figured I would see if anyone can lead me in the right direction. I am in a bit of a unique situation as I am already married. I am originally from London, England and my husband is from LI. We live in Indianapolis, IN. We originally got married in May of 2005, his parents, sister, and some friends were there. We pretty much just got married in the court house. I loved marrying my husband but the day was very stressful for me (I love my MIL but she drives me crazy). My in-laws hosted a small dinner (about 30 people) for us in Sept 2005 to celebrate, and we really appreciated the gesture but it was nothing we really envisaged and I had no control at all.

Anyway after recently talking with the hubby, we are considering having our vows renewed around our 5th wedding anniversary and have the reception, the dress, the flowers, and all the things i wish I had. The most sensible option would be for us to have it on LI (as all his family are there and if mine can come, easier to fly into NY). We would be paying for it all ourselves and be pretty much organized from Indy with sorting out what we can, when we are on LI.

Anyway I have started to look at things online (as I got pretty excited) and started to realize I have no idea where to start lol. The one thing I have found from looking online is that the one place that grabs me is Chateau La Mer. I dont really have a real clue about how many people we might have, due to the international aspect, could be 50 to 125. Anyway just figured I would introduce myself, this seems like a great and supportive site. Any advice at all would be very much appreciated!

i love CLM, too but they require a higher guarantee (i think the guarantee is like 125, but im not sure).

I recommend clicking on the 'planning' button on top of the screen (under the advertisement) and then clicking on the first link that says reception halls...

that will give you a list of RHs on long island, what their capacities are, and the location and phone number for reference. If you have a lot of OOT guests, i suggest somewhere near an airport or in a hotel.

happy hunting, and congratulations on your decision to renew your vows!

Thanks for the info and well wishes! I will have to really start looking at what we like, as well as trying to get an idea of how many people. Would like to get a look at Chateau La Mer to see it at least. Just finding it all confusing, as I really do not know Long Island lol.

I'm getting married at CLM in November, I have the smaller room upstairs and I have to guarantee 125 people. You might need a smaller facility if 125 is your max. Definitely look under the 'planning' menu up top. She's not BOTW for nothing, she knows what she's talking about.

Definitely starting to look. Thank you :) Did not mean to seem as if I was disbelieving at all. I really am not sure of the number of guests, but does anyone have experience with a smaller wedding and the venues that go with that? I am very afraid of looking online and finding places to look at, then going when we are on long island and nothing coming up to scratch.

Congrats on doing the wedding you want!! We were new to Long Island and went through word of mouth for everything. If you have any questions about specific places or vendors, do a search on the Brides Review Board. They are the ones that have already used places and vendors and give you a real review on things.

The planning tool the girls are talking about is also awesome to start!!!!! Good luck!!!

Hi there & welcome to the boards!!!!

I am getting married at the Fox Hollow, in Woodbury, NY. I'm a winter bride, January 20th and my minimum is 80. I have the Winter Garden Pavillion. It's an AMAZING room. Check out the website - here's the link...

www.thefoxhollow.com

You will find prices are dramatically different depending on your time of year & day of the week.

I am paying $59 a head for my Sunday night wedding in January. Others have this same room for twice that price in June - the major wedding month!!

I really really wish, I could do an out of season wedding, I would consider xmas period (i find that idea very romantic), but I am hoping to be admitted to medical school in the fall of 2010. I am kinda stuck with the summer months because of school. I definitely want to take a look at fox hollow, the website pics look beautiful

You should also try The Inn at New Hyde Park. I've heard great things about them, and I know they will cater a smaller affair.
Those bigger halls most likely will have a minimum. Especially during the summer, since that is their busiest time

I definitely ditto all this—the Winter Garden Pavilion at the Fox Hollow is amazing. I have a SORTA similar circumstance as you, except the FH is the international one (Swedish) so I had to find a place out here that I know he would love without him seeing it. Also, we had to have a summer wedding because he’s going to university to get a masters in urban planning…so we have the WGP in the middle of July. For that time of year, and the date and time (Saturday evening) we got a VERY fair price. I think it’s definitely something to look into.

If you want something waterfront that could accomodate the number of guests you are having, you should check out Louis XVI in Patchougue. It's beautiful. Also, some other suggestions are The Riviera in Massapequa, The Riverview and Snapper Inn (both in Oakdale).
