Unique Venues?? Please help me!!

Hi Everyone,

I am living in Switzerland at the moment and plan on getting married some time this December or January... I need to find a venue for approx 120 people... maybe a few more or less, with a finished cost per person of about 100 dollars including tax and tip and whatnot. I am trying really hard to find a place that is notjust your typical catering call with the cheesy carpets and the not so good food. I would love to find something unique yet affordable. I know this is asking a lot, but if anyone has some suggestions on where to start looking, I would greatly appreciate it!! I am from Plainview, so somewhere on Long Island or maybe even Queens and the city would be fine.

Also, if anyone has any recommendations for a dj, photographer or florist that is not very expensive I would be forever greatful!!

Thanks so much in advance!

Rule #1

When introducing yourself to the boards, its not nice to call catering halls cheesy and assume they have bad food.

Some us are getting married in those 'typical' halls.

Good luck planning from such a distance. I am using a restaurant, so that probably isn't what you are looking for...My DJ is Tommy's Tunes and I got an affordable package...They seem very nice and willing to work with you... My florist is : In Full Bloom in S. Farmingdale... My sweetie gets me flowers from there all the time and so we decided to use them for the wedding... Not one of the big florists, but it does amazing work... Good luck!

I will be coming home next week and we are going to get a ring... we are basically engaged to be engaged It is a little weird, I know...

I will be home for good starting in August, so I will be able to plan more from then on in person...

As far as restaurants go, I am open for anything at the moment!

Thanks

ITA!!!!

but for honest suggestions:
atlantis marine world (aquarium)
link depending on the month, they might be able to do your price

holtsville ecology center link you'd have to find your own caterer, but the inside could work (might be too small for you though)

the museum of natural history in the city does weddings... link

NY Botanical Gardens link

the foundry in LIC link

housing works book store link

sparkling pointe winery (honestly, this is the first time I've ever seen them, wish I woulda when we were looking for a hall) link

some are prob out of your price range.. I know my hall I'm paying just under $100/pp but its a 'typical hall'

I looked at a few of them on that list, and I can tell you that Sparkling Point is as is the Museum of Natural History. I would suggest maybe the Queens County Farm, but I believe you have to bring in your own stuff. Also, I'll just throw my RH out there, Riviera in Massapequa. Yes its a hall, but its very different from a lot of places on the island. If you don't do a Saturday night, they should be able to work with your amount of people and budget!

If your out of the country and no family can do the planning for you it might be best to get a wedding planner from around here they will prob save you money in the long run.
