Re: unity candle
I will have my mom and my FMIL to light them as to make them feel special and give them a part in the ceremony. They will light the candles on each side after FH and I light the unity candle. I guess you can have anyone that you consider very special or want them to have a part in your ceremony.

Re: unity candle
Can the bride and groom light it? or does it have to be someone in the family or friend?

Re: unity candle
I am not sure... I think the Bride and Groom light the middle one to represent the unity between them now... the outer two get lit to represent the bride & groom before they are united in marriage by other family members or someone close... I just didn't know if it is normally your parents that light them...

Re: unity candle
We had our parents come up and light a candle then hand it off to us so we lit the unity candle. But we switched it up a bit - and had his parents give me a candle and my parents give him a candle, so it was like the unity of bride and groom, and family all at once. It was very sweet...

Re: unity candle
Since my Mom is marrying us (Officiant) I will let her light them when she arrives at the altar and then FI and I will light center candle later in the ceremony...I think you can pick who you want to light them.....traditionally it's both Mothers lighting one candle each which represents both sides of the family or the Granmothers...then the couple take the end candles and together lights the center candle joining the two families....good luck.

I was going to have our moms light them and then hand them off to us respectively but now I LOVE the way you did it palebride. Now I think I will have the moms light them and have his mom hand me mine and my mom hand him his so we can both light the unity candle!! Thanks!
