Can someone please tell me if it's necessary to have the tapers on each side of the unity candle or can I just get the one candle?
**FH's parents are both deceased**
Should My parents light one and his son who will be 17 light the other?

Re: Unity Candle
From what I understand, the parents light the tapers for their children ( you and FH) and then you two take the tapers and light your light together..so yes...I believe you do need them.

Re: Unity Candle
the point of the unity to candle is use the two tapered candles (lit by your parents) and join them to light the center candle, so yes, they are necessary.

Re: Unity Candle
Let me just say your parents do NOT need to be the ones who light them. They could be lit by the priest. Our priest just discussed this with us. However, if you're going to choose to have your parents light yours, someone in his family should light his too.
