Unity Candle, how exactly does it work?

I heard the Mom's light the two candles after they come down the aisle?

How do you exactly do this part of the ceremony?

I've heard of that too, not sure how you would go about doing it.

We had the Unity Candle. It was all set up on a table on the alter and when it was time to light the Unity Candle, DH and I took one of the thiner tapers and lit them from the church candles (which were near by) and then we lit the Unity Candle together.

We lite the candle ourselves. We lite it because as two people (the single candles) we became one (the unity candle). We did this after our vows and exchanging of our rings.
