unity candle question

Does anyone know if churches supply just plain old candles if i don't want to order a personalized one? I don't think FH and I feel sentimental about getting a fancy one ordered for our wedding. But I would feel weird if i was supposed to buy it and then show up without one lol.

Let me know if anyone decided against a unity candle or sand ceremony!

unity candle question - Long Island Weddings

I dont think the church provides one and it is not part of the ceremony unless you request it to be. I ordered a personalized one but you can get plain ones at michaels that are basic

unity candle question - Long Island Weddings

If you don't want to have a unity candle, you're not required to. In fact, it's not even considered part of a Catholic ceremony at all. It's just an 'extra' that a lot of people have begun doing over the last several years and they will allow but by no means push you to do. So do what you want to do!

What she said! Honestly, I wasn't thinking of the symbolic meaning when I ordered ours. I just love personalized items and it was too pretty to pass up.

I appreciate this input ladies!! We might end up doing it any way but it helps to hear that I don't really have to do it if we don't want.

You guys are seriously the best!!

unity candle question - Long Island Weddings

When I just attended pre-cana, they explained that they like the unity candle ceremony because it allows a nice time for there to be music between the vows and whatever churchy stuff comes next (Im a real good catholic aren't I?). She said even if you don't do a unity candle, you should have a song played for a 'meditation' so that you and your then HUSBAND can look at each other and be like--yay! Otherwise you just roll into the next thing and its kind of blah.

I dont think the church provides one for you but you can just go to walmart or target and get a generic pillar candle.
