if you buy fast passes at each park, you can do both in a day!

If you stay at the Hardrock, you can get fast passes for the parks. There are some other hotels as well. I personally like Islands of Adventure better but I think you should do both. You can get a discount for multiple days through AAA or a discount through the hotels on site-like the Hardrock. I can't remember the other names.

FH and I go every year and pay the extra $30 for the fastpass. We get both parks done in one day. Its a waste of time to do only one a day. Plus if you buy the tickets online you only pay like $85 for a 2 park ticket.

Its hard to say which park is better because they are different kinds of parks. Islands is geared more towards adults because it has thrill rides like the Hulk and Dueling Dragons. Those are great rides and so are the rides in the cartoon area like Popeyes (its a water rapids ride, the best I've ever been on) and Dudley Do Rights (log flume ride with a great drop). Spiderman is also a favorite...it has amazing effects.

We also do Islands first then go to Universal to wind down. Their attractions are geared more toward movies and special effects. The only ride I would consider intense is The Mummy but thats not even that bad. Its an indoor coaster. The new Simpsons ride was sooo much fun. We really love Men in Black too where you have to shoot at the aliens and you get points. Shrek 4D is really fun too, its 3d. We're not big fans of like Twister, ET or Jaws but if its your first time going, I would do them.

If you have anymore questions, just fm me!
