Unplanned pregnancies question...

I think I mentioned that I have complete paranoia that I'm pregnant once in awhile (like last month). Don't know why - this happened before the wedding too. I was convinced I'd be pregnant for my wedding (made for some interesting dreams).

Anyway, I'm wondering for those of you that had unplanned pregnancies, were you using birth control? if so, what kind and how'd it fail?

My pregnancy wasnt planner per say... it wasnt avoided either. There was no protection. Sorry. Getting prego is scary whether you are prepared or not. Remember we are here for you when you do

my younger sister was a 'surprise' - and we always make fun of her for it (she's 9 and 10 years younger than us). A few months ago, while I was abusing her, my mom comes out with the fact that I wasn't planned either! They planned on more kids, but hadn't quite planned on me yet.

2 of my SILs 3 kids were unplanned - she uses natural methods (fertility awareness) and screws up whether its a good day for sex or a good day for babies.

unplanned doesn't mean unwanted, but I'm just curious how the surprises happen...

I don't know 'exactly' how I happened but my parents were in their teens when I was born so I bet the birth contro issue wasn't too strict
However, my mom got cancer the year after I was born and became infertile so if she didn't have me so young she would never have been able to have any children of her own so everything works out for a reason I was her miracle child as she puts it

My Mother was a STRICT Irish catholic (she wouldn't use birth control) out of the 6 of us only 1 was planned!

My son wasn't planned. But, we didn't use anything at the time.

Neither of my children were planned. We weren't trying or not trying but I would like to have waited a bit longer (we had only been married 1 1/2 years when she was born and I was only 21. We used no birth control for 5 more years and nothing happened. I decided at that time since my daughter was starting kindergarten and it didn't look like there were any more kids in the picture, that I would go back to college. So I started taking BC pills. Then I sold all my baby stuff at a yard sale (big mistake) and guess what happens? I got pregnant with my son. Not sure what happened with the pill because I never missed a day. So you never know!!

However...I had a tubal ligation after that (couldn't trust the pill anymore ) because I was happy with one of each!!

Lisa, Paul wasn't 'planned' either...we had stopped using protection immediately after the wedding. We weren't sure if we would encounter any fertility issues (not that we had any reason to believer we would, but you never know).

I think once you stop using any form of birth control then your children are 'planned' as you are not trying to prevent pregnancy.
I highly suggest you talk to your GYN about birth control. Perhaps you do not have real confidence in what type you are using or perhaps getting married and being in love with your DH is starting you thinking about a baby. Maybe the time isn't 'right' but your mind and heart are starting to see it as a real option.

Michelle that is exactly what Roger said yesterday. He said why we have to plan to TTC why can't we just let nature take its course and let it happen then that is when he made the comment I guess people who use no form of BC then plans to get pregnant, so I guess a lot more babies are planned but I guess most were not ready for them.

I've been on the pill for 10 years and never had a problem or pregnancy scare. I don't know why lately I've become paranoid - I think its the parenting board

And you may be on to something Michele...its is a real option these days, where it wasn't before...
