Unusual favor question

Unusual favor question

OK...I've been stressing out over the favors. I'm 30 and FH is 31, so mostly all of our friends are already married and we've all gotten every favor you can think of and I wanted to do something unique. We haven't been able to agree on anything (and I'm sure FH couldn't care less!).

Anyhow, my dad jokingly suggested the following last night: Tell everyone to throw their placecards in a hat and raffle off the money which would have gone to the favor budget. At first I was like 'yeah right,' but then I thought it was potentially brilliant...and since girls have given scratch-off tickets as favors, I thought maybe it wouldn't be that weird. Of course, we'd also give everyone something to take home like a personalized Hershey bar or something.

Personally, I think it would be really funny if I were a guest at a wedding with a 'favor raffle' and hey, it gives the guests a chance to reclaim the money they gave us as a gift!

OK, so be honest...I will NOT be offended...is this too strange/cheesy?? Will people talk behind our backs? FH and I wanted to sleep on the idea for a few nights anyway and he suggested I ask you girls...so what do you think?

I think it's a fun idea! I wouldn't be offended or think it was cheesy or anything, unless I didn't win I am sure everyone feels the same way about favors - we all have picture frames, cake knives, bud vases, etc.

uhmmm

Can I come!??!?!

Seriously.. sounds fine to me.. it will be one to be remembered.. if nothing else... you can make the raffle tickets.. really formal with their names on it and such.. and a number.. that way they can take that home 'personalized'. Just a thought.

I think that is the best favor idea I have ever heard of.

I think that is a great idea! But I too am worred about the 'no favor tradition'

We just went to a casual backyard wedding, and had a great time, but a few people in my FH family said, I can't believe that did not give something out to thank their guests.

I think it's a great idea. I wouldn't be offended at all.

What a clever and unique idea! I think it would be fun, however.....being a professional Fundraiser I love when my organization (or any charity/non-profit) receives a donation in lieu of favors in honor of their wedding guests. Just a suggestion and my two cents....

But whatever reflects your personalities would be great!

sounds like a great idea.. and definately different... i dont know how much money you have to spend, but instead of one winner, you could break it up into three... or get a couple of bottles of wine for the raffles before the big gift is called...

That sounds like fun!

There will always be the naysayers and complainers... those people you just can;t win with. If you give out a traditional favor, they will say that they have a hundred of those and what a waste of money... if you do something different, they will complain too.

So do what will make you happy. And I think this will make your wedding memorable!!!

I think that sounds like such a cool idea. Nothing better than going to a wedding than leaving with some extra cash.
But I would definitly have something small there for everyone, like the hershey bars you mentioned.

That's a great idea!

We are donating our money to a good cause and while I don't want to change my mind now, I almost want to do what you are doing now too! Especially since alot of our guests are spending a fortune on airfare and hotels to come to the wedding.

I think your guests will love the idea!

Perhaps instead of money, you will buy some substantial prize: a CD walkman, a camera, a gift certificate for dinner at your catering hall's restaurant (if applicable)

i think some people could be disappointed that they didn't win...

i think there are adult alternatives to favors...such as a bottle of wine...or a donation...and something edible is always a good idea...

Re: Unusual favor question

Since I can sense that you want us to be honest, I'm going to say I don't like it. In MY opinion, and I admit I may be all wrong, I think the only people who will like it would be the winner. What if your mom, father-in-law, sister or grandfather were to win? Would people question it?
On the other hand, following up on a previous post, when we attended a wedding and a donation was made to a non-profit organization in lieu of favors, everyone noticed and remarked what a generous and caring act it was, starting with the priest in church.
Please know I'm being honest only bec. you asked. Good luck. Let us know what you decided.

It's an interesting idea but I'm not sure it will go over well....what about using the budget money and buying something to raffle like a gift certificate to a hotel in Atlantic city or out in Montauk? that way they don't know the dollar value....just a thought.

I think it's a great idea...but I can see people passing some negative comments about it.

What about having a winner at every table? You can make more people happy and less people jealous!

PLUS your giving the candy bars... I've been to weddings that all they gave out were candy bars...so I would go with that idea.

Re: Unusual favor question

I think that it is a cute and funny idea, BUT it will stop the party. I know I personally did not want anything that made the party stop! That could take awhile (if you are fun with the drawings) and some times when a party hits a lull it is hard to get it back! If you wait to do it to the end, then what if people have to leave early.

I think the donation is a better idea if you don't want to have 'favors'

This is just my opinion though.

Good luck
