Well, let's start a fire this morning. I was standing on line to get breakfast at the breakfast cart outside my building, like I do every morning, and standing in line in front of me was...a smoker. At first, I got really annoyed because I don't smoke, and was offended that I had to vicariously help her smoke her cigarette through the inhalation of her second hand smoke. Then I decided to chill and have a little compassion because while I do not smoke, I am a former smoker, and know that at one time she was me, and I was the poor soul standing behind me forced to inhale the smoke.
So the question this morning is, do you smoke? (no judgments, just asking)

Re: Up in Smoke
I never did, but I think its because I used to see my dad throw up blood as a child. Thank God about a month and a half ago my dad went to a accupuncturist and has not smoked since!!!! He smoked for 40 years!!! Im so happy!!

Wow!!!! That is AWESOME!!! Good for your dad! Yeah, when your dad started smoking, it wasn't the social taboo that it has become now. But I am soooo happy for him!

Re: Up in Smoke
I stopped about 2 1/2 years ago. I smoked for a long time before that. Even as a former smoker - I hate breathing smoke from people who are walking or standing in front of me. I always tried to be aware of who was around me when I smoked, but I was mostly a 'car' smoker. I think that is what made it easier to quit, since I lived in NYC, I never drove anywhere anymore.

Re: Up in Smoke
I tried it once and it really hurt, so I never touched them again. Plus, having friends who smoked actually kept me away because I didn't want to have that smell all over me.
DH is in the process of quitting again. I'm trying to help. I hope that this time, he can quit for good.

Re: Up in Smoke
Don't smoke - too many family members smoked and are no longer here because of it.

Re: Up in Smoke
I gotta say, I HATE IT when I am standing near someone who is smoking, even if it's outside. I know I am gonna get the proverbial flaming for this, but I'd like to see cigarettes eventually outlawed, period. They are an extreme health hazard, and while everyone has the right to smoke if they want to while cigarettes are still legal, I have the same right not to have to help them smoke their cigarette vicariously through inhaling their second hand smoke.
I love and respect the person always; I just hate the smoke.

Re: Up in Smoke
I've never smoked either, there's absolutely nothing appealing about it so really don't see why anyone would start. FH is a pretty heavy smoker tho and I hate inhaling his 2nd hand, but fortunately he's trying to quit now.
