UPDATE: Caiden Sleeping at night

Well, it's only been 2 nights, but so far so good! I'm keeping my fingers crossed. The first night before bedtime we played in his room, I nursed him before he was really tired, then got his PJ's on, then played again on the floor, and then I put his toys in his crib and he played in there until he started screaming because I wasn't picking him up. After a few minutes I told him it was Night, Night, and put some music on and turned the little light on and left the room. Of course he was balling... he couldn't scream and cry any louder. It just broke my heart. While he was screaming, I did some stuff around the house to keep me busy, just hoping he would fall asleep. Well, after 20 minutes he did. I couldn't believe it. He gave up. I still felt like a horrible mother. He was sleeping on his belly with his butt in the air. It was so cute! He slept for about 3 hours and woke up and cried, but I just let him cry, and then 10 minutes later he fell asleep again. Then he woke up 3 hours later again, and then I let him cry for a few minutes, and then nursed him since he's not used to going that long without eating. Well, I put him in his crib and he slept until I needed to get him ready to leave for daycare. I heard him wimpering while I was getting ready, but when I went into his room, there he was sitting up in his crib playing with his toys quietly instead of crying! I couldn't believe it. Anyway, last night, it must be a fluke, but I did pretty much the same thing to get him ready for bed, and then this time he cried for only 16 minutes, and then fell asleep. I know he briefly woke up a few times, and was coughing, but he slept from 10:00pm last night until 8:30 this morning! I am in shock! He didn't cry at all during the night. Of course I kept checking in on him because I'm not used to him not crying. It was truly amazing. We're going to do the same thing tonight and tomorrow night, and keep doing it until he sleeps through the night. It's hard to hear him cry, but I work FT so I have to get some sleep. I'm exhausted.

I haven't had the chance to get the book that Michele31 recommended though. I did read about it online. I'm sure it's nothing like reading the book. If this doesn't work then I'll be trying it. Though isn't it similiar to what I'm doing?

Well, I just wanted to give an update, and thanks for all your suggestions.

I'll let you know if he keeps sleeping or not!
Thanks girls!

The book will teach you about routine. Playing right before bed is not really the best idea IMO Melissa. He needs a wind time down, something very quiet, like his bath, read one book then nurse for a bit then bed. The book is different. It explains that you need to reassure your child during his crying that you are still okay and in the house with him at various times.
