I'm just posting since the boards are dead... my FILs really surprised me this Christmas. Some of you know of the issues I've had with them not acknowledging our engagement in the past -- This Christmas has been a complete 180. They are very supportive and wrote very beautiful Christmas cards to me about how nice it is to have me in the family.
I spent Christmas Eve and Day with FFIL and his new wife and actually had a great time. FFIL even surprised me with a gift off my registry!!!
I feel a lot better about everything now, it's like a weight off my shoulders. It's so much easier when the family is supportive. Now that they're making an effort I am going to go out of my way to make a bigger effort too.
Wow, I'm happy for you. Congrats. It definitley makes a difference. I wish FH had a nice normal family, we got a christmas card addressed 'Dear Keenan and Fiance'

No, seriously... it was like that when we first got engaged too... FFIL especially seemed like he was going out of his way to make things difficult. Sometimes it just takes people a little while to warm up to engagements I guess.

LOL, actually the card was from his cousin. I thought it was hilarious, especially since there's no such word I despise more than the word 'fiancee'
