UPDATE- ....Having cups sewn into a dress- size limits?

UPDATE- ....Having cups sewn into a dress- size limits?

The seamstress (who I do not like more every day) told my friend that you could only have cups sewn into a dress if you are a B or smaller....

I've never heard of size limitations for this- has anyone else come across this?

The BM dress I chose is difficult to find a bra for because it has a v-neck and a deep v in back...I thought it would be fine to wear a bra with straps since the dress has straps, but my friend said they aren't thick enough to cover the straps.

The seamstress talked her into buying a special low back bra and getting it altered to go along with the v-neck in the front. It just seems unnecessary...

Any thoughts?

******UPDATE*******

I just called the seamstress to ask her why she wouldn't do it and she said that it wouldn't offer enough support and that cups are used for more volume, not to support anything. I said that a strapless bra doesn't exactly offer support either, and she said 'well, a long line bra certainly will.'

I don't know- my friend said to just leave it alone- but I don't want her to screw anyone over...

i've always been a C (and now D since gaining a lil weight) and everytime I asked about cups I was told that for my size it wasn't going to do anything, that I was better with a bra

I've been told by all the seamstresses that have altered dresses for me that they only recommend cups for B and smaller

well, the seamstress may be right. the only reason i am able to have cups sewn into my dress is because it's empire-waisted and holds me up pretty well since it's fitted so close to the body... i don't know how cups alone would support a girl who is bigger on top, although i would think that her max would be C cups, not Bs.

I hope that's not the case, I want them sewn into my wedding gown!! I don't feel like pulling up my dress all night!

Guess I'll find out tomorrow night, that's my 1st fitting...

i AM ANTI cups.. LOL I just think its another selling point for the vendor..I refused it several times at bridal reflections ..the bra I got looked fine under my dress..plus I saved $$

I remember getting cups one time for a bridesmaid dress and I barely filled them.. it was ridiclous..

just get a really good bra.. my friend who is a DD found one for her bridesmaid dress that is a low cut .. I canfind out where she went if you want.

The cups would've been cheaper...the dress is cut low in the front AND the back....I tried searching even online for the right one, and there aren't many low cut strapless bras...and the few that are don't have a low back...

What a mess....

that so not true! im a B cup girl and i had cups sewn into my dress and there were absolutely no issues in putting them in. However, so many girls bigger than me have cups sewn into their dresses and had no issues what so ever! The seamstress should be working for her and do what your friend wants her to do.

I kinda have to agree with the seamstress...sometimes cups do not put your boobs into the darts of the dress properly. If that is the case a long line bra would work better. If she is bigger then a B more then likely that would be the case. My mom is a seamstress and I asked her about this and she said she likes the girls perky and up. If she is a C or a D they better be really firm and perky for cups.

While they really only offer coverage rather than support as just cups and a longline will offer a lot more support it isn't always neccessary.
I sewed a strapless into my dress for my MatOH wedding and it was fine.
The important thing to remember if they are real cups i.e. underwire, and the dress is fitted properly then yes they will be fine otherwise they're just coverage.

Re: UPDATE- ....Having cups sewn into a dress- size limits?

I know when I went for my first fitting for my wedding gown, they were already to put cups in and I mentioend to them that I was a DD. They were in shock b/c I really don't look it but I have a small back too.

In the end, we tried the cups and they are working out fine. I won't know the final result until the wedding day but I feel very secure in them. I believe the seamstress told me the maximum size they can hold are D's. But I guess I proved that wrong.

I have to say I can see them saying a D size but a B? That's just ridiculous.

I hope it all works out for you and your bridal party.

ETA: My dress is corsette in the back and I can make it as tight as possible as opposed to a zipper. I think that is what's helping the issue also with me and cups being sewn in to the dress with my size.

That's so irritating. My seamstress was hell bent on selling me a long line bra. I refused. See if they can sew a strapless bra in for her, that's what I did for my dress.
