Update: How To Handle Intros?

My father is in a sticky situation with intros -- my mother passed away and his girlfriend feels uncomfortable being introduced, plus, my dad doesn't want to give the impression that she's hosting the party. But, my FIL's are co-hosting with my dad and they've been real a-holes and I'm convinced they think the party is about them and WILL want to be introduced.

Now I realize that introducing the parents is customiary, but I thought the problem might be eliminated if only me and FH get introduced. But I'm nervous for the confrontation about that which I know will happen with FILs. How do I handle it? What do I say without sounding like a bridezilla?

It's gotten to the point where FMIL said at one time 'I'm sick of Robyn getting what she wants.' And the truth is, I'm not. She also has a very difficult time accepting answers that she doesn't like.

I need your help!!!

Well just have the FIL's introduced and your Dad introduced.....if your dad's GF doesn't feel comfortable then she doesn't have to be officially introduced with him. just have her already sitting at the table along with all the other guests. would everyone be ok with that?

My father doesn't want to be introduced at all and feels it is unneccesary (just his opinion) for either set of parents to be announced -- this is all about me/FH he says.

But at the same time, I absolutely refuse to let FIL's get introduced while my dad is not. So what do I say?

IMO, I don't think its necessary for the parents to get introduced either.

They are sick of you getting what you want? This is your and FH's wedding. When it's their wedding they can get what they want.

Don't introduce anyone but you and FH. They don't have to be happy about it. They just have to show up.

You are not going to win no matter what you do sorry to say. Do what's best for you two.

My parents are divorced and my mom did not want to be introduced

We only introduced my IL's. It was fine, I don't think anyone even realized

Do you have any sisters? Maybe they can walk in with your dad. Or a grandma?

Re: Update: How To Handle Intros?

My friend had a sticky family situation and had FH introduce everyone. He introduced his stepdad, his mother, his biological father, and made no mention of his father's new wife.

His words were so touching because he incorporated some sweet words while introducing everyone.

Maybe you could do something similiar. FH could introduce his family, your father, and say some kind words to your mother. He just doesn't have to mention your father's gf.

Just a suggestion.

We did not introduce our parents or the bridal party. It was just us.

When it all comes down to it, its up to you and FH... at one of my sisters' weddings she decided not to introduce anyone but he and DH---well people were hurt but in the end everyone got over it since it was their wedding!!!

If there is someone else your dad can be introduced w/ (his sister or his mother) then I say go for it. If not, then forget the parents all together. Unless your dad prefers it, it really isn't fair to introduce just FH's parents. And if you dont' feel comfortable doing it, then it does not need to be done.
