UPDATE: I got an appointment for TOMORROW!! What type of doctor would be the best to see?

Update: I called LIJs pediatric neurolgy unit and said I dont care who I see or where but I need the next available appointment and they said someone cancelled and theres an opening for tomorrow!!! Thank God!! Now I hope this doctor works with me.

Im going to call a behaviorist now too.

I honestly have no idea - when it comes to Gabe - who do I see?

I am switching pediatricians - they are no help - I dont need a referral to go to a specialist or anything.

Ive been getting many helpful FMs but everyones telling me to see a different type of doctor.

Any idea on who would be the best to start with?

I believe my son has tueretts and ADHD for those of you who dont know. His behavior is getting so bad I just want to break down :( Today along with MANY other things he poured milk on the dogs again. He corners them, he kicks them :( I dont know why he does this!! Ive been trying to spend so much alone time with him. Just this week along with other things I took him to the movies, restaurant, Toys R Us, ecology center and a playground. Im exhausted but I give as much attention as possible to him.

Hes just acting out so bad :( and his tics have gotten so much worse :( I need to call someone tomorrow.

Behaviorist? Psychologist? Psychiatrist? Neurologist? WHO!??

Sorry - Im just having a really hard time today

My brother is high functioning autistic and has tourette's (he's 16). My mom takes him to a neurologist. I'm not sure if she sees a pediatric neurologist (or if such a thing exists?), but if you want I'll get the name from her.

HTH. Sorry that's you're going through this....

Also, just as an aside, my middle brother (22 now) developed a twitch just after my youngest brother was born. Could he be getting jealous of the new baby coming along and just isn't sure how to express it?

If it were my kid I might take him to a new pediatrician for ideas. I would definitely take him to a neurologist or a psychiatrist for at least one visit each. Each specialist may have a different idea about what is happening, so that's the reason I would try more than one specialist. I would try the neurologist b/c I believe that is ultimately who will have some answers. I would try the psychiatrist b/c of the links that have been found between tics and obsessive compulsive disorder (and tourette's). I think that OCD in children is overlooked, as parents conclude that it's something else. There used to be a a great special about kids with these symptoms on HBO on demand. I don't know if it is still on.

You have FM.

You honestly should see all of them! A psychologist will help you deal with the emotional effects, a neurologist will help you determine the cause, and a psychiatrist for meds.

i think a team of experts is the best from what i have heard. just like you may have a family gp..then you have a dermatologist..then a foot doc... i think a team of people working as a unit is often the best for all of us.

yups thats what the show was i saw..about ocd and tourette's...might be intersting to watch.

best wishes

Amy-the symptoms may be worse because of the new baby coming.

But I would start with your regular doc. If you don't have one you like get a new one.

Good! I did not see your post until. Yes, you need to see a neurologist and go from there.

ETA: We have to assume that baby boy has decided to hang on for a bit.
