UPDATE: My boss cut my hours.

I've been working there longer than anyone in the office - the office completely turned over within the past year and a half. I've been there for 2.

However, I work p/t, as I am a full time student. They were always able to guarantee me about 20-25 hrs a week. This week, I came in to see a 'memo' in my box saying that because I am the only part time employee in the front office (not counting the gym area - it's a physical theapy place), I'm the most 'expendable', and because the company's payroll is too high, they have to cut me to 15 hrs a week.

Hello! I have tuition, a car and all those expenses, phone, laundry, food, a WEDDING??!?!

When I met w/ the boss, she kept telling me 'It's not what's best for you, it's what's best for the company.' Grrrrr.... they just hired ANOTHER full timer about 3 weeks ago - and she spends most of the day sitting on her hands 'cause there's nothing for her to do.

This SUC%S!!!!

eta: I consider myself to be very good at what I do, and the bosses hear it all the time from the patients I've helped. I love working there, and I hate to start looking for a new job. This place is 2.4 miles from my house!!!

a memo? That is SO rude! here they do the opposite, when full timers leave, then re-hire with part timers, so they don't have to pay benfits.

Could you maybe get a job at your school?

it's possible, I guess, to look for a job at Stony Brook, but I really like what I do.

I make great $$$ here too...hate to give that up.

Sorry... that does stink. Maybe you can get another job and just fill in for the hours they cut?

UGHHHH!!! I AM SO MAD.

I was supposed to work @ 2:30 today. I called the office at 2:10 to say that I was leaving my house, 'we're DEFINITELY staying open, right?' Boss says 'of course.'

So I skidded all over the road (despite my brand new tires) and got to work about 2:25. It took me 15 minutes to drive 2.4 miles!!!!

I clock in, get my coat off, and what do you know, Boss announces that we're closed, as of 2:30!!!!

I went into her office, explained that I called, drove in, etc. ... the best thing she could say was 'Mother Nature's a b!tch, isn't she? You were clocked in for 6 minutes, so you'll get paid for that, nothing more.'

SO my hours this week have been cut to 9 hours and 54 minutes!!!

They have no $$$ left, so she had to cut out her weekly manicure and bimonthly hair appts, so she's been pissy lately.

I'm glad you got there/back safely thought.. DH called me and said there is so much 'black ice' and the roads are so bad, he saw 3 accidents right in front of his building (he's in Woodbury)

I'm sorry you have to deal with that at your job.
