First I want to thank everyone on LIW for their love, concern and most of all support, not just during the past 3 weeks, but during the past 2 months.
Just to update you all, CJ is still very critical. Yesterday he was 3 weeks old. His lungs are VERY slowly improving and tomorrow the doctors will discuss a second round of steroid treatment. Last week my little love developed MRSA in his blood which is an infection which can be fatal in premature babies. His central lines were removed as well as the lines in his belly button as they can make him worse. Everything is day by day or more accurately, hour by hour. He is receiving antibiotics so please keep your fingers crossed.
CJ receives blood transfusions regularly so if anyone who is O+ and knows if their blood is CMV free - please let me know if you would like to donate blood for our son. If anyone is O+ and would like to have their blood screened, FM me for the information. Alexlynn7 happens to have CMV O+ blood and will be donating upon her return to NY.
I have been nervous to let you all know how he is doing as I am scared of jinxing him. He is holding well as of now, but we had an extremely rough week last week. And I know there will be so much more to come. As I said, life with preemies in the NICU can be up one minute and down the next. You literally take a step forward and get knocked back 3 steps at the same time.
I really thank each and every one of you who has contacted me with your love and support. Especially those who visited me in the hospital and have come to visit my little love in the NICU. Smiley - for being with me the first time I laid eyes on my son! Azad - for the numerous lunch hours and panicked calls where you rushed to be by my side. KimberlyBride, LadyPrincess, d&d05, Ang&Rich: For all that you all have done and more - thank you!
ButterflyBride, DIJBH, Alexlynn7, IrishTracy, Trinity44, Sweatpea130000, Mindy0247, Ronkonkomonga, eogara, kdrainey, chichila15 and ravensbride - thank you for your love and support. And for all of you who have sent prayers and good wishes, please keep them up!
We thank you and love you all.
Donna and Chris
P.S. - To all the brides I've missed, congrats on your weddings!

Re: Update on CJ - Blood donations needed
Just in case Donna is unable to log on, can someone forward this message to her:
I just want to let you know and I've checked my blood donor card. It says I am O Positive and next to CMV it says '-' so I think Im negative for CMV?
Anyway, if my blood can help your son with his transfusions I would be more than happy to donate. Please just let me know what I'd need to do!
(I have also sent FM)
TIA!!

what does it mean to be CMV free?
I just read up on it and they say..
CMV is short for Cyto-Megalo-Virus. It is a member of the herpes virus family. This family of viruses also includes:
herpes simplex (causes cold sores on the mouth and venereal disease) varicella-zoster (cause of chicken pox and shingles) Epstein-Barr (cause of mononucleosis and lymphoproliferative disease)
