Update on Preschool Job...I have a choice:

do I want to be in the 2 year old room all day (which includes the directors son) or be a floater and help in all the rooms as needed and get my own school aged class (1st or 2nd graders) everyday from 3-6???

SIL voted for 2 year olds

I love 2 year olds! They're so cute! They can be tough, but it's amazing to watch them grow and learn - I vote for 2 year olds

I vote for the 2 year olds. This way you'll feel like you belong. I use to work in a preschool and I was a sub. I never felt like I belonged. Then when I was offered full time as a teacher aide I took it and I loved the children. Eventually that job led to a teaching job in a school district. So, my vote is go for one room all day. Good luck!!

not really a vote...playing devils advocate...would you want to the be person that teachers look forward to seeing?? (since you 'save the day' by being a floater??) can you try both out and deicde or they won't let you do that?? (ie - one week with 2 yr olds, one week with floating and class 3-6?)

either way, it sounds so fun!!!

I used to work in a daycare center while I was away at college...I used to be a floater. I liked it, I got to play with all different kids all day.

My vote is for floater

I vote for two year old. Here's why, you'll have your own classroom and be able to do anything you want with your kids. You'll be able to plan your own stuff to do, decor, parties, pick your own stories to read. It is a lot more work, but a lot more fun!!

Only thing that would bother me is diaper changing, but if you don't mind it, I say two year olds!!

As someone else said...diapers are the major downfall of this age! But if you can handle that, then I would say go for your own class. I started out in the 2 year old room and was also a floater for one year. I dont like working with different people every day, and I loved having my own classroom so that was the choice for me.

There are actually so many things you can do with a 2 year old, its amazing! If you need any help, ideas or advice, let me know! I have tons of experience and tons of books.

Good luck with your decision!

I worked in a daycare for at least a year in the two year old room. There is nothing harder than this. I vote for the floater. I think it is good to see all age groups. I loved my two year olds, but I always got sick, and I always was exhausted. If you need ideas for activities...let me know.

I worked in day care and I had almost the same exact position. I floated all morning to early afternoon and then I was the head teacher from 3:30 to 6:30 in the after school program with the school age kids. I really liked how this worked out, because the morning went fast since I was always switching rooms I didnt have time to get bored. The only downside is that sometimes youare so tired by the time you get to the kids that are actually 'yours'.
From the days that I subbed full time in the 2 year old room, I can tell you that while they are so precious at that age, it is physically exhausting!
P.S. I think I know you! Did you ever work at Minnesauke Elementary School in th eafter school center?

I say 2 year olds also.

That way you're not a 'floater' and it's more stable and you'll be in your own room.

I am a 2 year old teacher now, and while I have my hands full I love these munchkins so much!
I have my own room with a co/teacher and we get along great, coming up with the same ideas for planning, and activiities.
Ive also worked with school age children and some of them can be a handful as well.
Being a floater has an advantage cuz you get to know all the kids in the center.
I love having my own room though.
