*Updated*NWR:Wafflez and Flapjack *Now with PICS*

They both have wet tail. This is usually fatal for hamsters. We havent even had them a week, and I've already gotten so attached to them.

I know it might sound silly, but if you don't mind including two adorable baby hamsters in your prayers we'd all really appreciate it.

*Update*
Well they both made it through the night. They look a little better however, they are not out of trouble yet. We are going to totally scrub half their mansion while they are in the other part and then do the other one. We're hoping to get the germs out of their house since it's so contagious.

They are still eating and it looks like they've been drinking a bit too. Both very good signs.

I'll keep you guys posted. Thank you so much for the support.

the one in the wheel is Flapjack and the other one with the evil glowing red eyes is Waffelz

They are both looking much better today. we seperated them so that if one gets better she wont get sick from the other again. Flapjack is runnin around like a crazy hamster and seems to be doing really well.
Waffelz is still feelin crappy *no pun intended but she's getting better every day.

thank you all for your prayers and kind words and good thoughts.

aaaw...i LOVE hamsters...i've had several (and I have one now)...but i know they get really stressed out when you first take them home. And that makes them especially succeptible to diseases.

The advice I got from the pet store was to leave them completely alone for the first week or two. Don't try to touch them or pet them or anything. Let them get acquainted with their new surroundings...then they are less prone to diseases.

We did everything right. We have had hamsters before. However none of that matters, because preventing disease is a lost cause right now.
Wet tail generally takes 7 days to start showing symptoms. We'd had them for less than a week when they got sick meaning they were most likely ill when we got them.

Thanks for the advice, and I know you mean well. I just kinda felt like the comment would make it look like we got them home and bothered them to the point of them getting seriously ill and that's not the case.

oh...i totally didn't mean to imply that you were doing something to bother the hamsters and make them ill.

I was just kind of passing on what the pet store told me when I brought my hamster home. They almost didn't let me take her because they thought she was too young for me to bring home...and they kept bringing up the wet tail issue.

i know you didnt mean to do that. like i said, you had good intentions and good advice for future hammy owners.

the pet store was like 'LOOK! BABIES!! WE JUST GOT THEM TODAY!! TAKE THEM HOME BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE DOES!!!'
Ugh. Our hammys are only 5 weeks old. it's rediculous that they sold them to us.

I had 2 hamsters in my lifetime and I absolutely loved them! I know all too well about the wet tail, but I jus had medicine for that and everything worked out fine. It ***** they dont live long though! Both of mine lived to about 2. Both had some sort of bleeding prob right before they died.. It was very sad After the 2nd one, I couldnt take the short lives anymore & decided that all the habitats and playtoys were going in the garbage...

2 years is a good amount of time for a hammy! you must have been an excellent mommy.
most little kid's hamsters get 9 months. not b/c the kids suck or anything, it's just the stress from being played with.

i am trying to decide if we should throw out our ferret cages. we had 2 that we adopted for free b/c they were abanonded and it turned out they both had a very serious disease that we didnt catch in time. i loved those little guys so much we only had them for a few months but i still cry over them. i want to have ferrets again, but at the same time i don't know if i could handle it. their stuff is in a box in the closet, and their cage is hidden in the backyard where i can't see it.

i understand what you mean.
