UPDATE....how many pics did your photographer say they were gonna shoot

Update on earlier post:
i called FSIL and talked to her(it was eating me up) and she agreed that it was to little to choose from...she told me it was ok to tell him and not to stress myself about it...to deal with him as if i hired him and dont worry about it....i have great in-laws

my FSIL hired our photographer as a gift..hes a friend of hers but he doesnt have packages made up..he said he was gonna shoot somewhere around 150-250 shots and i dont think thats enough...he aslo told me to tell him what package i want...any suggestions

Our photog is doing a min of 700...

I think if he's talented, gets all the right shots and is a gift - why not?

I have 2 photographers for 10 hours on my wedding day shooting pictures starting when I'm getting ready and they will shoot around 2,000 pictures. What you are being quoted is WAY UNDER.

I was told 500-700
they explained the reason it will be less than what they normally promise is bc i am having a winter wedding, and i will not be going to a seperate location for pictures btw church and reception.

If I was having a summer wedding or going to a seperate location it would be closer to the 700 i think.

600-800 proofs. we got 672. i am sure they took many more pics than that, but we got 672 of the good ones.

i wouldn't be happy with 150-250 shots, but thats just me.

are you happy with the photographer she is picking for you? imho, the photographer is the most important vendor...don't accept unless you truly think you will be happy with their work! i was in a similar situation for video...i accepted and regret it i dont recommend it.

I think our guarantee is 600 or 700.

How many hours will the photographer shoot for you? Honestly I think that 150-250 is just not enough. A lot of these will be outtakes so you have to see if they mean 150-250 'good' shots or just 150-250 pictures all day.

I understand the huge benefit of having a photographer as a gift (that would have saved me thousands), but I would also want enough pictures to have a great record of this very important day

holy crap thats low.. if I were you I would hire a second photographer for your wedding day. or upgrade his package.. He has to be shooting film if its that low...

We were told a min of 800, likely closer to 1k....

that's how many you need to ensure there are pics w/o blinking or odd facial expressions....

700 is our minimum. Dan says he usually shoots between 1000-1500.

They said minimum with 2 was 1,000 I believe...we got over 1800

we were told 800-1200 but we'll probably get closer to 1200 because of an extra photographer.

maybe they take like 800-1200 pictures and then choose the best 250 of them???

I forgot my minimum, but to put it in perspective for my engagement shoot Dan shot 180+ pictures. And obviously weddings are a lot longer than engagement shoot. I would check to see if the estimate was 'good' shots that would be given to you. From your update it sounds like your photographer would be willing to up the number, but make sure he's there as long as you want him to be. Congrats on having such great in laws!
