Upgrades - Before Contract Or After?

Hi Everyone -

I was just wondering what everyone's opinion is about whether it's better to add an upgrade into your contract or to try to get an upgrade closer to your wedding date after you've signed. I read somewhere that it's easier to negotiate once you're locked in and it's closer to the date, since they know you're booked and their only chance to make more for that date is to make it by getting you to add things.

Has anyone had experience with this?

I'm really referring to the Viennese Hour, if that makes a difference...

i think it totally depends on the venue.
For instance, some places will offer you more in order to get you to book. Once you're locked in they don't have to try as hard to impress you.

I'm specifically talking about Land's End. Their Viennese price is high and they only came down on it for me ever so slightly when I prodded. I'm 97% booking their anyway, and am just going to do so without the Viennese and then pray I get the tax return to add it next year (it's the only upgrade I really want).

And they DEFINITELY don't seem like they want to impress me now that much, lol. From what most people say on here, that seems pretty standard. They haven't been totally unwililng to negotiate, but they haven't been remotely as flexible as the other places.
