do most dj's supply this service or are you girls hiring someone specific? is it expensive?

Most DJs do... as far as I know for an add'l charge. Around $400-$500

My Dj don't do up lighting but I found a place that is doing uplighting for me for 400 bucks. I shopped around and some people places quoted me 800 to 1k which I thought was nuts.

Did it through my DJ, and got a reallly good price. Probably you can negotiate a better deal with your DJ since you are booking them for music?

Most DJ's do, if your getting alot of other things from them you can try to get it thrown in free or at a cheaper rate.

WOW. I feel like an idiot. We are paying $1000 for uplighting but its 24 high quiality lights all around the room. I am stresssssssed now.

I am getting uplighting from my DJ.. and it's computerized, so they can change the colors. It only cost a few hundred.. definitely less than $500. It was part of my total package though, so I'm not sure how much it usually costs.

Our room is on the smaller side, so we are only doing 12 lights, and paying half that. So maybe that is what they charge for more?

I paid $600 for 10 lights through my DJ and they looked horrible
Make sure your DJ actually has good uplighting!!!

Me too and it was NOT AT ALL what I got the day of my wedding. All the pictures online and in the office were much nicer than what was actually provided for me. You can see what I mean in the DJ section of my review.
