UPS question

UPS question

My aunt sent me some food (perishable) via UPS...and the package was supposed to arrive 5 days ago. BY now, the food is spoiled. Anyways, UPS comes to my door just now, hands me the package, and I said that I didn't want it, that I want to refuse it. The driver got annoyed...he asked me why I want to do that...I explained, and was very nice. He was really annoyed with me.

Will my aunt be able to get reimbursed her $$$ for the package now that I refused it?

That's a good question. I didn't know you could refuse a package.

Re: UPS question

I would call up UPS directly and explain the situation, and demand a refund on the shipping.

Re: UPS question

If she sent it overnight she can get her money back for the shipping, unless it was a weather delay that caused them to miss the promised delivery day. If she sent it ground I don't know that there is any guarantee on delivery dates so she may be out of luck. If it was insured she should also be able to get the insured value of the package back if it was sent overnight and properly packed for perishable shipments.

However, they may want to see the package to assess 'damages' and since you refused it I'm not sure if they will return it or dispose of it.

You can call 1-800-pick-ups and ask customer service for specific info.

Re: UPS question

You have every right ro refuse delivery. Your aunt needs to find out where things went wrong, whether it was the retailer/distributor or UPS itself.

Can she follow the tracking detail to see where the delay was?

Yes, she should definitely find out where the problem was...

Re: UPS question

I don't like UPS.

I ordered clothes from Old Navy last year. I live in an apartment building that you have to be buzzed in to get into the lobby. So I didn't know that Old Navy doesn't have a thing where people have to sign for the package or else UPS won't leave it there. So the UPS guy comes and obviously I am not there. I don't know if he tried buzzing anyone else or leaving it with my super. So you think the jerk would have enough brains to say 'OK if I leave it out on the steps someone will take it, even though no one needs to sign for it?' Nah.
Left it outside where anyone could take it.

Luckily someone brought it in and put it by the mailbox. Unluckily, someone (I can't prove it but I know who, some skanky lady that lives on the 2nd floor) decided to steal it from the lobby. Of course that isn't UPS's fault really but it wouldn't have been stolen if he had either 1) taken it back anyway and left me a sticker or 2) putting it by the super's door which is on the side of the building and not out front where anyone can take it.

Re: UPS question

She should get a refund from the company that shipped the item. Most companies that send perishables will only do so overnight - it is UPS' responsibility to get it to you.

If they dont and since you refused the delivery, they will return it the shipper. The shipper can't charge your aunt for something she did not receive. At the very least, they should offer to resend the package with no charge for the shipping via another method of shipment.
